Here's a few more pics, I'll get the score and submit him tomorrow... Didn't get back to school until 3 this morning and had a test at 830 so it's been a long night[IMG][IMG][IMG]

And yes, I killed him in shorts

Hoyt throw up your score sheet, unless circumferences are smaller than I suspect 108 seems touch low...but could be his spread playing with my eyes. Great job and awesome year no doubt for you!

I'll take a pic of the score sheet, mass scores were all right around 3 inches though so that brought him down some. He wasn't a high scoring deer due to lack of mass. I'll rescore tonight and post a picture but I've scored several deer before and while I was surprised, I think the width just made him look bigger than he was score wise. Not that score really matters to me in the end though (other than for this)

Hope that makes sense... Let me know if I'm missing something but I really think he just looks bigger than he was in inches

While I'm at it, I realized I didn't really explain my history with that buck. I named him pitchfork last year, and he looked to be the biggest buck we had left after last season other than some deer that come and go. Here's a pic from last year. [IMG]
I first spotted him while glassing in May this year, and he seemed to be pretty consistent all summer. My only concern was that he would change up, but he kept coming out into this clover plot located in a hay field. Knowing my stand wouldn't work based on the wind, I built a haybale blind to hunt for him. [IMG]
Opening evening he came out but spooked, and the next night it was too late for a shot. I knew I had to make something happen soon before he left, so this Wednesday I left NC State after my last class and headed out since the wind was right. 10 minutes before dark a small buck came out dead downwind, but didn't spook. I contribute this to my use of my scent smoker before the hunt. He smelled something, but kept walking into the field to eat. When Pitchfork came across the field 5 minutes later, I was disappointed I wouldn't get a shot. He closed the gap quickly though, and with a minute of light left I ranged him at 50 yards. I drew back but wasn't sure what to do since I knew it would tear me up to lose this deer. Earlier that day I had practiced out to 60 though and was dead on, so I said a prayer and released the arrow. Despite having a lighted nock I was unsure of the shot, and after help arrived I left a lantern at blood and drove around the edge of the field. And sure enough, there he lay. I completely lost it, as this is my first nice buck with a bow. He isn't the best scoring, but I put so much time and anticipation into this hunt that now it almost feels like a downer. Not that I would take it back, but it is a strange mix of emotions to have all of that excitement for the next hunt go away. In the end, this is definitely not going to be an animal I forget about despite his somewhat lower than expected score. I spent all summer thinking about this deer, and I feel blessed beyond measure that the plan came together so perfectly.

Cool story Hoyt..Its pretty cool killing a buck you have history with. And nice job on the hay bale blind.

It looks like you are missing a set of circumference measurements, you always get 4 sets of circumference measurements whether its s spike or a 20 pointer. Very nice buck ....
