Onslow county here....I am looking for a place to hunt off Camp Lejeune...The hunting pressure and lack of hardwoods there is very frustrating. I wont be back in the states until late october but I am willing to pay/work/anything short of having sex with an old woman or human experimentation (those are my two buggaboos) to find a spot to hunt in NC

I may actually know someone, gotta check to see where exactly an if friend still leaseing there. Your message is so hilarious but sounds exactly how I would be to but I totally feel were your coming from that being said I'll for sure do what I can an ask my friend. If your up in the mtns give me a shout. Love taking my friends up to the land an setting them up in one of many stands. My friends ask how or why idc an just let who ever come hunt but only bow hunt I should add. For me I enjoy seeing ppl have a better or different set up than normal an gd things come from being ppl.

    Vance County here.

I got my first bow today! First time ever bow hunter. I shot for about an hour and at 20 yards I'm shooting a 6 inch grouping. However I seem to be pulling my shots to the left about 6 inches. I'm a lefty so I guess that's backwards for everybody else. Any ideas on how to correct this?

Try focusing on your bow hand, are you gripping the bow really tight? If so, that will cause you to torque the bow. Relax your hand and let your fingers hang.

Also, be sure you have a consistent anchor point. It's helpful to look up "shooting form" videos, if you have any questions.

Thanks Cowboy. I was gripping to tight. Soon as I relaxed my hand my shots came right in.

I'm probably not going to be very popular for what I am about to say but, someone needs to.

6" groups at 20yd and I'll bet you are planning on taking that bow into the woods September 13th aren't you? About a month before opener and you're posting you're new and having these problems is not good.

My advise is to stay out of the woods with that bow until you are consistent with 2" groups at 20yd. When that first deer steps in front of you at 20yd, that 6" group will probably grow to a 12" group due to nerves. You drop your arm, break form slightly because you are in a stand (which I am sure you are 100% prepared for), push the shot, misjudge your yardage, punch the trigger or whatever else you could do because of nerves and you could easily screw up the shot. Missing a deer would be best case. More than likely you would hit it in a bad spot and it would either suffer and die slowly or not die at all and suffer.

Believe me when I say it sucks to loose a deer. If you have any compassion for the animals you hunt, it will make you sick. It will make your first hunting experience with a bow go from a super rewarding, amazing achievement to one of the worst experiences of your life.

I would wait until next season and practice like crazy until then. There is a whole lot to think about doing right and understand about shooting a bow correctly. Go shoot some 3D shoots, ask these guys on this forum about form and how to shoot. Get good and confident so that shooting is second nature. When it's a no brainier to hit a 2" circle at 20, you'll not think about anything except what spot your going to hit the deer. Finding your first deer is a much better feeling than loosing your first.
