Hey All, Just found this website where you can click a bunch of points and box in your food plot to have it calculate acre. Pretty awesome, as i have always wondered how big a field across from our property was. Check it out! Google Maps Area Calculator Tool
Pretty neat. I have always heard people over estimate the acreage of their food plots, this could be a useful tool for that so you get your seeding and fertilizer rates correct.
Mine wouldn't work when I tried it... Went online and found the link posted a few weeks back. Very helpful.
The maps are dated. If you want to get clever you can manipulate by certain dates. I have seen this done to determine paths of field tile.
HAHA i was laughing pretty hard to!! I was amazing at how small my plots were, and here i worked my butt off clearing trees/brush for the last 6 years!
I worked all off season on my biggest kill plot, cleared an 7 year old clearcut by a Machete and rake. I was SURE it had to be a half acre...turns out, it's 1/10 HAHA. I'm telling you I worked a solid month on it. DARN proud of my 1/10 acre kill plot too haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not kidding, same exact situation. We clearcut our property in northern wisconsin 13 years ago. Aspen (aka "popple") came back thick as can be. I spent the last 6 years clearing these 2"-5" trees with a small kubota tractor and I too thought it was a 1/2 acre for sure. Nope, only 1/10 just like you, HA. This year i decided to rent a mini excavator - kubota KX121. I had an absolute blast using it, digging out tree stumps that were 15"-20" in size in only a matter of 5 minutes. I was also able to "pluck and chuck" these small 2"-5" trees and pile them nicely into a burn pile. We now have about 3 - 1/4 acre, and 2 1/3 acre plots after using this machine for 16 hours of run time for a cost of $853 delivery included. I plan to rent it again next year for another 16 hours of run time. If you ask me, depending on the size of your trees, this route beats hiring a dozer without doubt. The mini EX allows you to stack the trees effortlessly wherever you want and also leaves the top soil in tact. I will post pictures of the plots after labor day weekend.
