I'm still here I've been to several Amish farms today asking for permission to hunt and if they know exactly where the turkeys are. Looks like I'll be getting up at 430 in the morning and hitting a field with a young man. I also got in touch with a turkey killing machine but he can't go till Monday and I may have to be on jury duty. Please pray I don't have to report on Monday. Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Good luck Jerry! I am going to try to get out for a bit in the morning and see if I can't kill this big paint brush Tom that is out behind the house every morning! Or his buddy with multiple beards...
Good luck guys! Trevor might be goin out over the next 4 days to try and get the bird him and the Larson's hunted for 15.5 hours a couple weeks ago.
Going out in the morning for a go at a second bird. Bringing a friend with me to share some knowledge as he has had a rough go for many years. I helped him locate a bird and suggested where to sit and what to try if he hangs up and he was able to capitalize on his first bird. I'm after a bigger bird hopefully. Tired of Alissa killing all the big ones lol. Good luck to those still hunting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No luck on our end. Trevor went out Friday morning, the tom hung up at 100 yards with some jakes apparently and that was the end of it for him. We decided fishing would be better time spent this weekend.
Nothing! No gobbles, clucks, purrs - just plain nothing. It's like being in the Twilight Zone with Rod Sterling. Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
In da woods watching the sun rise on the last day of the season. I spooked one out of the roost setting up. I am hearing faint gobbles all the way around me. Wish me luck! I am going to need it and then some! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Around 9:30 I had a chatty hen in the decoys. 4 toms did a drive bye. They all goggled 3 times and just kept on truckn. Bummer! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Heck yah I'm hunting. I've moved to another property. I've set up down by the creek where they roost. I can't see much but it is a good spot. Sweating my arse off! Humid, hot, and no wind down in here! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I feel awful not connecting with a bird this year for the team. I really wanted to connect again with the bow. I have a buddy that owns an archery shop here locally and he ran a turkey contest this year (usually does) but it is all inclusive - archery and shotgun. He had 40 people in the contest and only 12 got a bird - all via shotgun (30% success rate). That's WAY LOW compared to past years! Makes me feel a little better... but not much!
It didn't happen. Didn't hear or see a bird. After sun down I climbed to the top of a ridge line to listen for gobbles. I'd say there wasn't a single gobble in the entire valley. I guess I should have just stayed put at the other property. Yesterday morning started out slow and by mid morning I was seeing a heck of a lot of birds. I ended up seeing a total of 13 birds within a 100 yards, the majority being toms. They were just not interested. Nothing worked. I sat and watch a tom strut on and off for 2+ hours! My morning went from mediocre to worse when I realized I had a total of 3 squares of toilet paper. Let's just say my bowhunting .com t-shirt is missing some material. Don't sweat it Jerry. Bowhunting turkeys can be pretty tuff even on good years! The good news is I believe you will have a chance at redeeming yourself on team 11 next year! You have full year to make sure you are successful!
Boy I sure hope so!!! To bad about your T-shirt Heck... I carried my Bowhunting.com T-shirt with me in my backpack all season just so I could wear it my trophy photos. I think I'll leave it home next year...
