Plan this week: Friday (No School) my boys and I are going to scout some new land I picked up. This farmer has 1000s of acres we can turkey hunt. I only hope I can convince him to let us deer hunt this fall ( I haven't asked yet.) . I've only talked to him over the phone so we are going to swing by his place so he can give us the 411 on the best spots. My plan is to get a couple ground blinds set up for our hunt Saturday, Sunday, and possibly Monday. We have 3 tags left.
Both of my brothers are in Wisconsin to hunt for a day and a half. I just talked to them about an hour ago and they were both successful. Coincidentally, my little brother killed a quadruple beard today. He'll be headed to the taxidermist when he comes home tomorrow. Not too bad for the first day on a piece of property they've never been to. I'll share some pics as soon as I get them.
My first day was today. Got out for an hour this morning, set up on some roosted birds and they flew down about 100 yards away with at least 4 hens. Worked off the other way. Tonight I'm set up in the same spot hoping to catch them on their return to roost. They both worked into 30-35 yards and got nervous, I tried to thread an arrow at one while he started to work away but caught the edge of a tree. I suck!!
No birds... Of course it's HARD to get a bird within range when one hunter is constantly peeking his head out the window(s) to see if anything is coming. Secured a new place to hunt this afternoon. I went to a huge farm near the river found the owner plowing the fields. I asked him if I could hunt and he said, "No... I've leased all the hunting rights to...." Well, long story short, I went to see the guy that is leasing the hunting rights and asked him... he said, "No, but you can hunt my property, it's full of turkeys and I don't turkey hunt." Seems the guy has dudes trespassing all the time and nobody ever asks anymore if they could hunt on his land. He was so glad that somebody actually had old-time values and asked. So... tomorrow I'm back in the blind (alone, no head-peeking out the windows).
Did anyone check out the new Bowhunt or Die webshow? Alissa's and my hunts are featured at the end of this episode.
I just watched it Trevor. That was some great footage. They came in on a string to the decoys and started tearin them up. It doesn't work out much better than that. Congrats again on a couple great birds and some awesome video.
Lol! I started watching this show at 11:30 last night and I had to be up at 4 AM. Not the smartest thing to do then again it inspired me to push on and we were successful! I can't say I will stay up that late the day before a turkey hunt for quite awhile. I am exhausted!
Just watched the footage Trevor. Thanks for filming those... I learned a couple of things watching - and, Alissa's bird is HUGE!
Any of you guys still hunting having any luck? Our season is over with here, but I've been killed out for awhile anyways. I'm already ready for next year! I'm just trying to finish all stand prep and get mineral and cameras back out. I've been way behind on everything this spring.
I'm still hunting! Now that my boy has his first harvest out of the way I can focus on trying to harvest a larger bird. I do have the realization getting it done late season is tough. I am going to try to get out a couple times this week.
Hey keep at it guys! Trevor took out Chase and his dad on Saturday and spent 15.5hrs in the blind straight.
