What do you guys hunt out here in the west? For me, spring, summer and winter are rabbits and coyotes. And the fall is muleys and eventually elk and antelope.
August and September I bow hunt Elk and Muleys. Here and there I will draw a cow elk tag for late December. October thru the middle of January I duck hunt also. I do a little ice fishing and in the summer I try to fly fish a little.
The spring is the end of wolf season and the beginning of turkey and bear. Comes August we will hunt antelope then move onto elk, whitetail, mule deer, and lions. If your lucky enough you can also draw moose, sheep, goat, or bison.
That would definitely be a once in a lifetime hunt. I think that bighorn sheep is the same here Probably sent from a meeting using Tapatalk
Unfortunately I live in the number one bighorn state in the nation. Drawing a tag here can be once in a lifetime at best.
I hunt elk, moose, whitetail, mule deer and antelope. I've had three moose tags in my life and won't likely get another one. I also hunt waterfowl, pheasant, chukar, huns, grouse.
Threads like this kill me. I can't wait to pack up and move west in a year lol. Next fall ill have the following tags in my pocket, all DIY bowhunting public land: WY Antelope, CO Mule Deer, AK Moose, and MT Elk. The unit I'm hunting for Mule Deer next year I have the option to pick up an OTC elk tag if I'm feeling lucky. $530 and change is a lot of dough though so I doubt I will. Can't wait to join the ranks of all you hoodlums chasing critters around the mountains all September!
January thru March, wolves, fox, snowshoe hares, ptarmigan, spruce hens, lynx April and May, black bear August, Caribou, tundra chickens (ptarmigan) spruce hens Sept, moose Oct and Nov, brown bear, black tail deer, mountain goat June and July I'm too busy fishin for salmon and halibut Dec is my "off" month, stay home to keep the wife! Don't make it out for all of these every year, but I do try
I'm assuming this refers to all hunting, not just archery. Interesting to see the wide variety of game pursued in various regions. My neck of the woods is southern British Columbia, right on the WA state border. The vast majority of my hunting is done with archery tackle now, though I used nothing but rifle for 20 or so years. By bow, I've taken whitetails, mule deer, coyotes, antelope (Wyoming) and grouse. I've shot all the above species with rifle also, as well as several moose and elk, plus one cougar. Never had a desire to shoot a bear, though there's been lots of opportunities. We have many areas in the province that have general open seasons on moose but the populations have experienced a huge decline in the last few years; I'll probably never get to hunt them by bow.
It depends on the tags we draw. Besides mule deer (Nevada) we try for at least one other species. This year it's antelope in Wyoming. We hunt turkeys and whitetails in Missouri. Have my fingers crossed for several apps.
Here in Washington, I hunt Spring Turkey, Fall Turkey, Deer, Elk, Bear and Cougar. In the fall, I also hunt grouse and the occasional rabbit. As for moose, we have two options, one being a OIL hunt. All moose hunting is by draw only. We can apply for an Antlerless Moose Only hunt, which you can draw as many times as you get lucky. We can also apply for an Any Moose hunt, which is our Once In a Lifetime hunt, whether we shoot a bull or cow. I put in for both hunts. We also have OIL hunts for Mt. Goat and Bighorn Sheep.
Sorry to say in a bow hunting forum, but I am a duck hunter. I also hunt deer, pig, coyotes, elk, and anything that flies with a firearm. This year I am going to try to extend my hunting season and do some bow hunting. I am want to see if I can use my bow for ducks at our duck club, I need to check if this is legal. With that being said I am a newbie at bow hunting so I will see how this goes.
