got this old thunder chicken down! with the gun last night So that means going to get my bow turkey tag!! Try for Another
I failed Sunday. Had the decoys setup out of the bow (vertical) blind window, birds came in and locked up & wouldn't get closer. Shot on the strutter was out the horizontal window. I drew, aimed and shot. My arrow barely clipped the bottom of the blind window, veering my arrow up. It scared the crap out of all, including the turkey . Saw 50+ birds the whole day but got no clear shots on birds. I'm unsure they are heavily breeding yet. Toms would get in sight of the decoys but never commit.
We are still a few weeks away from the season starting here in southern Wisconsin but the birds are starting to get fired up! I am starting to hear more and more gobbling on the nice mornings and birds are starting to strut out in the fields. I can't wait to get in the blind and whack one with the bow. I haven't even bought turkey loads for the shotgun this year, its all about the bow!
I have been snowed out of too many 1st seasons here is Wisco so now I only apply for 2nd. Looks like we have a cool down coming for next week anyway so I may be looking smart again. I have tags for 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th seasons though so there will plenty of turkey hunting being done!
Well I got out this morning and put an arrow in one! He and another tom came charging in and beat the crap out of my DSD.. After about 2 minn i sent an arrow and put him down. The only thing that sucks is that i didn't have my good camera to get a good video. all i had was a crappy handy cam that i cant seem to figure out how to get it off of.. i did snap a pic or two with my phone and had to use the crappy camera to get one with me in it.
With the grace and any luck from the big man upstairs maybe, just maybe I can put one on the board tomorrow too! Can't wait. Won't be a lot of sleep tonight.
Well, made it out tonight, wind was blowing like hell, saw 4 turkeys, all about 50 yards, never had any come in close to get a shot though.
Went again this morning, went out for a mid morning hunt, had one shock gobble right away as soon as i called, alas I couldn't get him to cross the road, however i did watch the neighboring land owner who owned that chuck a land shoot a hell of a tom with his shotty. Moved on after that, went and called for another 2 hours no luck. Pry done for this week, rain coming and work takes time, out again maybe easter morning, and a week from today.
Well friday i had a tom that was rusted all by himself and i got him coming and he didn't see my decoys tell he got 20 yards away from them and he didnt really like the tom so he moved back to 30 yards and i shoot..... but guss what ...... 2 of my freinds and i made a blind on a old boat trailer and it only has a 6 ft roof and and im 5,10 5,11 so my bow was higher and i forgot to bend my knees and... well my idler wheel smoked the roof of the blind. and my up and down was right but it went to the right and clean miss behind him... soo i didn't get him... But he ran over the hill to my dad and he smoked him with the 12g 3 1/3inch so it worked out. Then the next morning i set a blind up a blind a 75 years away from were a tom and i drooped a orange bag just out side the blind and so i didnt see it and well he did before he eaven come out of the rust so....... Next time!!!
