That sucks about Elk. Hopefully you can bag a muley this year!

Thanks, Sooner brother I am so deflated right now..... Dang!

I know I need to focus on Gods will and not mine and I think I am just going to keep training and shooting my bow.
All things happen for a reason, this is just tough.

How many points does it usually take to draw the tag you were wanting? The good thing is you are now one year closer.

The more you have the greater the chance but anything can happen. Some get drawn their first year.

Yes! Getting closer every year and perhaps OTC in a different State down the road.

I've been putting in for OK elk for 7 years. I'll be lucky if I draw that tag after 60 years. Until then I'll just head to CO every year:)

Spot, what unit did you apply for ? For me, I earned my 10th point so I am holding out for 10 or 23N...had a buddy who put it in zero points and 3 other guys on an average of 4 I believe, drew 6A.

so for me it looks like Colorado again,..however it looks like Unit 61 is in my cards

Have you ever seen a Grown Man Cry!!!!! Dude I can not believe how hard I am taking this. Not really crying out here but I really am an Elkaholic. Everytime I move forward or hear of someone elses tag I feel sick. I know that others feel this way also and it just drives in the hunter ambitions from within.

Alright! Getting it together.... I am not at liberty to disclose our hunt areas as I put in with family and they are tight lipped but if you ever end up at my campfire I would be sure enuff glad to tell a few stories. I have two points to hang in my hat and am nocking arrows for muleys in the fall if all goes well the remainder of the year.

Hammer Down in CO. I will be there one of these days.

    (insert frowny face here)

    SnS...
that's probably the reason I like the OTC so much - not sure I want to deal with the Hope and then Letdown each year:)

Truthfully, my biggest reason for avoiding any draw units is just flexibility right now - having to apply so early in the year - I need to be able to adjust plans at a moments notice with 4 young kids and busy schedule...it would be real tears if I had to waste a draw unit tag that I had already paid for:( Of course it would be different if I lived anywhere near Elk country.

I really like how easy it is to roll into CO and pick up a tag - but with tags hitting the $600 mark this year...the price is starting to worry me as well.

Preference Points are still reasonably priced in CO if you hunted the year prior...so I should have 4 PP now. Not sure what I'm saving for - but worth it "just in case."

The good news is that I've spent enough time in the same OTC unit now, and have such a connection with the area, that I'll be totally pumped if that continues to be my destination each year. I'd also be happy to just get out West and hunt Muley's if Elk does not work out some year...

I'm expecting life to get in the way of heading out West one year soon...until then, I'll love every minute of it.

Good luck on the Muley's this fall!!!

Gotcha good news in Arizona is there are some best kept secrets on other units. Course for me at this point I'm holding out.

    Good luck on the deer...

My wife and I just put in for all of the Nevada tags we're eligible for. I figure I'm contributing to the Dept of Wildlife fund but that's ok. We've been lucky in the past to draw elk and Desert Bighorn sheep tags. She can't draw for elk but Rocky Mtn Bighorn sheep, California Bighorns, and goat are available for her. I think I have 13 goat points and about the same for Calif sheep and Rocky Mtn sheep. That's one nice thing about being a resident, it doesn't cost much to apply or to draw. All of these tags are precious.

The area I put in for deer and elk has landowner tags available if anyone wants to check them out. $5-8000 for deer; about $15000 for elk. Too rich for my blood. Randy Ulmer usually buys a deer landowner tag each year and he's killed some giants.

I had to pick up my jaw off the floor when you said Big Horn Sheep! How AWESOME is that. The land owner tags are steep for sure. This is not something I would be able to do just now.
    Good luck to you

Which areas did you put in for? My brother in law and I put for party tags this year, deer only. We thought about the combo tag, but it's a little too pricey for us.
