4 more days for me! I can't wait, gonna scout out the hunt area on Friday afternoon/evening and hopefully get on a roost for Saturday Morning. Any second outing news yet, hoythunter? My hunting buddy just got a new Browning ground blind. I am not sure on the make, and I bought two new turkey decoys on sale at sportsman's warehouse. I got the Primos mobile hen and mobile jake decoys. Look pretty sharp, need some work to get them to stay "puffed" out all the time. What decoys are ya'll using, if any? Also, I was thinking, and, do we need to submit photos of our birds as well as the measurements? I'm sure a quick re-read of the rules would fix this, but thought I'd still ask.
Went shed hunting and brought my bow yesterday, heard the turkeys by the river and tried to stalk em. Got within about 80 of the toms and 25 of the hens. There are soo many poults around it's hard to get close to the toms without being seen or heard.
Saw 25+ turkeys tonight, 3 or more longbeards. Called in 7 jakes to 15 yards, it's was really cool watching them. Hopefully I can get close to a tom soon.
Shot a tom this morning, hit him really high, not a fatal shot. There was only a tiny bit of blood and meat on the broad head and a lot of feathers around so I think i just clipped the back. I saw him limping 15 min later and i think he'll make it, i sure hope he lives.
Always a tough situation. Maybe he'll fall for your calls again and you can finish the job right! Keep your head up! What are you using for arrowheads? I am just gonna use a broadhead with a judo style attachement to stop the arrow from passing through completely. 3 more days! So pumped!
I didn't call him in, the turkeys here don't come in to calls so you have to either stalk them or setup by their roost. I'm using Rage Chisel tip Extreme. I'm kind of "glad" that it happened because now I can hunt more and maybe have a chance at a bigger tom thats in the group.
No offense but if I wounded a bird I would do everything I could to recover it. You owe it to the animal once you shoot it, don't just move on. Good luck and hope you can put some points on the board Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hoyt: did you get multiple permits this year? or just the one? I bought two but I know in Ne we are allowed 3.
I shot my 5th turkey this morning! (3rd with a bow) 30 yard shot with my Hoyt Spyder after stalking up on him in a wheat field. He has 3 beards, my 1st multiple bearded turkey. The biggest is 7.5" and the other two are 1". Spurs are both 1/2" and he weighed 20 lbs! I'm not sure how to score it for the contest yet but I will read the thread right after I post this.
