Just got my AMS in the mail and got her all set up This will be my first year bowfishing and I am pumped! Decided to leave the peep/d loop on there so we can quickly convert it back into a back up compound if ever need be.
Nice looking rig! My advice to you when you start slinging at fish would be: "Aim low!......nope.....Lower"
Nice! Get another arrow because if you have two you won't need the second arrow... but if you just have one.. you're guaranteed to break a nock, have the tip fail or lose it to sunken roots. Lol. I have two arrows, on one of them one the nocks came broken in the package though, called the guy and he's sending me a few extra to keep handy I have an old release I was thinking I could use, I'm only going to be walking the river bank for now so I wont be trying to "snap shoot" as much. This a bad idea?
There ya go! I tried for a year without a release and hated it. Well, I should say my fingers hated it. I now use a release 100% of the time. Like mentioned above, the best bowfishing advice is aim low!
You'll be fine! Some of my friends (*cough* Deb.. Louie) have bowfished with high poundage spiffy hunting bows, sights and release. They did fine... tho' it was pretty slow. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk

A release is good to start with I would say, but once you need to be quicker like on a boat persay, fingers are the way to go. You're tough enough I bet. I use an old Fred Bear Whitetail Hunter with the AMS pro on it, fingers, no sight just look down the arrow and I do just fine....the more fish you shoot at the better you will get.

Well I have only done it from my boat, at night with the genny/lights etc. As from the bank, I am not sure. I know Kensington Metropark is loaded with them.

I could only imagine the looks people would be giving you walking by. Would you even be able to do that there?
There would be some great looks wouldn't there?! You may want to check with the park rangers about shooting from shore. We did it from my boat like previously mentioned.

I was watching some videos on that. The 2011 winners shot over 4500 lbs of carp and gar in 2 days. Overall 145,000 lbs of fish. Insane!
I was up there in 2009 (or 2008?). We hit one of those car sized rocks while scouting the day before the tourney started. Pretty much destroyed our prop. And since it was a pontoon prop, none of the stores had any replacements on hand. Then during the two day tournament it was windy as heck... so we couldn't get very far out on the water with just the troller. Still, we had fun. We got to one of the islands and stayed out of the wind and shot teeny tiny gar and goldfish. Not exactly a winning strategy... but still fun. Before we busted our prop... we were seeing big schools of carp out a mile from shore. We've since put a rock hopper prop guard on our boat. And a pusher fan. But I'm not likely to head back up to Michigan with the boat any time soon.
