Dan if the dates work out for you I'm in southeast Colorado only an hour west of Syracuse Kansas. If you wanted to drive to my place you can throw in with us when we leave. Right now I'm planning on being there the 20-28th and have a buddy going with me. But there would be plenty of room for you if you want to make it happen.

Tony - great to hear - the more the merrier! You won't regret it...

Fitz - its hard to beat this setup for those looking for a first time elk experience...and to top it off, it's a week in the some of most beautiful country on earth.

My one year wedding anniversary is September 28th and I'll be in elk camp. Glad my wife is very understanding even if she is tired of hearing about elk season already. :nana:

Those would be the dates I'm looking at as well. I would leave that Friday and have a place I could stay either in Kansas City or Manhattan that night to shorten my trip.

Are you planning on staying the 20th-28th? If so I have a place in Kansas I could meet up with you.

If it works out your more than welcome to ride the rest of the way with us. It would knock about 6 hours off you wouldn't have to drive. Just something to keep in mind.

OK...I just figured out the Multiquote option:)

Bring it - can't have enough NYers in camp!

    Likewise!

That's no joke - for the cost of gas and camp food - it would be hard to beat as a weeks vacation! Plenty to enjoy and learn...

Trevor - I'm not the only one looking forward to your hunt recaps after this fall - knock 'em dead!

As mentioned - I've been in bow range of elk each year...some years many times. Any elk with a bow is an accomplishment. It is hard hunting, but I love it! There will be days you see no elk - but as Will has said - you better stay positive and stay ready...because it can happen any second...

Get those legs in shape - and be prepared to become an Elkoholic...

    Glad you're making the trip!

Sounds like a match! I think SoccerDan could help split gas:)

We might have to dig a 3-holer out back:)

I'll be coming by myself and I'm coming down 70 from St. Louis so if someone needs a ride, ill have room in my suv. Not trying to get off topic at all, but who all is going to the G2G? Being a new guy, i would love to put some faces with names up there before camp.

Dan - the biggest issue with me is my schedule (coach football games 2 days/week that time of year, and son's bday is the 28th with party always on that Sat)...the most I have ever stayed is for 5 full days of hunting, and prob the same this year...
if that works for anyone they can jump in with me anytime - but I know I'm not even ready to leave each year when its time!

...looking forward to the days my boys are joining me and I'm not rushing home;)

EDIT - looks like patinthehat could be an option also as he's coming across 70...

Matt that will be the greatest when your able to take your boys elk hunting. I went rifle as a kid with my dad and those were the best hunting trips ever. Now I can't get him to shoot anything but coyotes and prairie dogs. My father in law and wife both archery hunt and I enjoy hunting with them as well.

Understandable. I would be staying the whole time so if I can't find someone to carpool I'll be driving solo.

Elk fever is an amazing thing!

These stories are great! I'm sure if you get Justin's take on his 2010 bull...the reason he got the shot and not me...I was standing there "awe-struck" and that elk probably could have walked up and licked me...

In 2012 Justin had a 315-325" bull at 6 yards and couldn't get a shot because of the trees covering its vitals. Like Will says 8 seconds.

This topic just lit on fire!

Good banter and stories already. I have read every word 5 times now, plus the past season recaps and about 100 youtube videos. I am amazed at how long some of the bulls stood after the shot in the distance before actually going down. Pretty tough animals. Also some of the the videos of bulls getting in very very very close are crazy!
