I just do the tail feet and beard myself. THey turn out great and save you $400. My taxidermist does a full mount for $400 and they look sweet. Thats the low end of a full mount for a tom too.

I do it in a different way. I take every single feather out and make sure it is cleaned off and keep them in order. I then take an old milk jug or some plastic and cut it into a half moon shape and lay it down on the table. I then take each individual feather and lay them out like they should be and then hot glue it. Then i put another layer of plastic and do the second row of feathers and then another layer of the smaller feathers after that. This insures that there is no meat at all left and no way bugs can get to the fan. It looks very nice and clean when it is done. I wish i pics but i am at school now so i don't have any. Its a cool process and only take about 2 hrs max and you are completely done and its ready to go on the wall you don't have to let borax or anything like that dry.

Here are a couple mounts we have in our club house.

I like the chest mounts because they don't take up a ton of room!!

We've never spent a dime on our mounts. Just screw around in dad's woodshop for awhile:

I've done fan mounts for all except the one I got the year before last and my first archery bird. The one I shot with a recurve was a beast...28.5# with 3 full beards 26" total. I got him mounted in flight. The one I got the year before last I got mounted standing on a piece of drift wood....the same position and the actual piece of driftwood he was standing on when I shot him. If I get one this year, I'd like to have him mounted in full strut. I'll get some pics up later of my mounts when I'm on my home PC.

Alright heres a question for you guys getting the full mounts. I heard something about freeze drying the heads. Now would this allow you to use the original head for the mount? Just asking because I have seen some mounts where the head just looks to fake for me or whats the cause for this. I knoardw nothing about getting turkeys mounted besides me just doing the fans and beard

My taxi did this one for me for 125. It looks real good but I'll do the next one myself. It was worth it to me since it was my first bird

This is mine from last year. My buddy did it for me for costs. His cousin makes plaques for 35, then another 10 for stuff to dry it. Also threw in a case of beer, but then helped him drink it.
