Yes or no. Do you think the US will have a major SHTF incident within the next 50 years? If so, what is the likeliest cause?

I need a definition of "SHTF incident" please.

Like another Civil War? WWIII? Societal collapse? Zombie Apocalypse?

Major. Meaning, it gets bad. Food shortage, looting, safety compromised, martial law, etc. All the items you list would probably qualify expect perhaps how WWIII would go.

Sadly something is bound to happen the way our nation is "progressing"....I just pray by then I can have my own land or make it to one of the family's spots....honestly it is a real thing that will happen and I will wanna get as far away from the cities as possible.

Then I do not believe an incident like that will happen within the next 50 years.

    But I'm also an optimist.

Maybe. It will have nothing to do with the way our nation is progressing though, just a collapse of a major need. Food, finance, energy, major natural disaster, etc. I could see it happening in my kids' lifetimes, maybe.

I'll never be a full fledged prepper, but I plan on starting to get a few essentials on hand.

I sure hope not, and I think it's doubtful. There have been doomsday predictors for generations. One thing remained consistent. Things (i.e. we) persevere.

A natural disaster, however, I could see. Yellowstone is a concern.

Affecting the entire country, no. Affecting isolated areas, very likely. Earthquake, hurricane, flooding kind of stuff. But not a total collapse loss of control kind of thing.

Yep, probably gonna happen sooner than later unfortunately. I don't want to see it but the Truth is much of what we know will change dramatically.

Yes, it think it is possible. If I had to guess, I'm going with a financial collapse. We cannot continue to spend money we don't have and borrow from other countries. Eventually the other nations will stop lending to us because they will realize we cannot pay them back. At that point, major government functions will have to be shut down causing a spiral effect that will bring our country to it's knees. Rich people will leave for greener pastures, and take their tax dollars with them, the middle class will yet again forced to carry the country and be overtaxed to the point that they cannot afford to live comfortably and the poor will be without any assistance. It could make the great depression look like a picnic.

All that could be avoided by some responsible changes in the way our government does it's business, but I think we all know it's going to take a disaster to show them the error of their ways.

If I moved, I may strongly consider putting one in Hook.

Too many people with power and money have exactly what they want and a barrier to keep it. You will continue to see wage slaves and the so called middle class erode, but the powers at hand will keep us somewhat content.

In the next 50 years? I think so.

We always have major wars that are seperated by less than 50 years. I wouldnt call that a SHTF moment but we continue to make enemies. Our debt is only increasing but I don't see countries pulliing the rug out. They want to own us and have us in the palm of their hand.

I can see something happening though. Citizens are getting tired of how this country is being ran into the ground, would only take one group/state to get things started.

Did people talk about this stuff as frequently before Doomsday Pepping shows hit Nat Geo?

US Bonds and Treasury Bills are still widely regarded as some of the safest (if not the safest) and most liquid investments in the world. If countries like China and Japan were to start to liquidate their holdings it would more likely be due to collapses of their own economies perhaps leaving their government with no choice but to do so. A collapse of the US economy would in turn cause the collapse of those countries since we are such a strong consumer of their exports. Basically we are all in this together. But I agree our country is in a dangerous situation regarding our dependence in borrowing money from these other nations.
