Here is an old article I wrote a few years ago, obviously it's about bowhunting but you get the idea. By far the best advantage that an electronic caller offers, is the remote feature. Obviously the coyote is coming to the sound, if he's focused on something that is 30-50 yards away from you, your chances of success go up significantly. Having the decoy at the caller and being able to control both with the remote is also priceless. For hand calls I like the original Crit-R-Call, The Verminator and the predator call from Mossback game calls. Make sure you're always calling into the wind or at a crosswind if you can help it. Calling down wind basically just educates them.
Thankfully, it happened. Finally got out Wednesday and was able to get calling some puppies with fellow member Rick James. Man alive, I didn't think you could have so much fun without seeing a single coyote. Lots of sign and lots of promise, but nothing was responding to the calls that day. Beautiful crisp morning (started out around -6) with lots of snow, even too much at times. Mix that with fresh air and it was totally worth it, even without fur on the ground. Great memory and I gotta thank RJ for taking some time out of his schedule to join me on my first "real" coyote hunt.
That place is littered with yote sign, you are definitely going to kill some in there. It's a beautiful piece of ground for sure. Already looking forward to the next hunt. Thank you again for the great time and for the invite!
I believe you can hunt them at night in IL but if your doing so where someone can hear you shoot from there house, beware. A lot of law enforcement don't know the laws. If they get reports of shots fired, be ready to prove your innocence. May not hurt to inform them ahead of time so it doesn't become an issue. They patrol a lot at night and see lots of yotes. They may even be able to give you areas to go.
