Hard to believe with the amount of commercials that are on both that they still have the nerve to make us pay for it.
I hate TV. Its the same ****ing **** over and over. I do like some of the discovery shows like africa and blue planet.. Which you can always stream from something later on... I have cable for internet. Netflix is great if you have the right package... i can get 12 dvds a month. I don't sleep that great so i like to watch movies as i try to lay down at night. My good friend that lives the single life that bought a house a few years ago doesnt have cable or dish. however he spends like 100$ a month + on dvd's and box sets from amazon on crap. Every time i stop at his place he has something new on his coffee table ( not nuggets)
There is no way I could live without watching all the sports I do. I pretty much pay my cable bill for sports (and American Idol)
if I could just find a way to get my wife weaned off of E! TV, I would have been cable/DTV free a long time ago. Compromised by getting DTV so she could get E!, I got NFL, which I barely watch anymore. f^%!#@ Kardashians have probably cost me over $1000. I could always wait for Game of Thrones to hit NetFlix/Amazon on Roku.
Just dumped my cable box off today. TV is lame these days, anything I'd want to watch is on Netflix or some sort of variation anyway.
Ok so say my TV has all the Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Vudu, etc. apps. Would I need an Apple TV or Roku? I guess I would need one if I download an episode or movie online on my computer or iPad, and want to stream it to the TV, right? Just trying to decide if they are worth it.
You will need one to stream the movie from your mac to the TV, I know Apple TV is only like $99 and that a one time thing and thats it. I don't have any experience with Roku but I'm not sure if you can easily stream from it like you would with Apple TV.
I havn't had HBO, Showtime, et al for some time. I spend more of my tv time, either watching NFL or History channel, Discovery channel, etc... I used to pay the ridiculous fee for the Sunday Ticket. I don't do that anymore. When a game I want to watch is on, & I don't have it locally, I just watch it on the internet for free. It's not as good as watching it on tv but, good enough to satisfy my fandom.
No if the apps are on your tv and it's hooked up to the internet just go to the app and start watching.
My wife and I got Apple TV last week and we love. We went from no cable to basic cable a few months ago as it was only $10 more than Internet alone but we mostly watch netflix. If you have apple products I'd lean toward Apple TV because you can display anything on your apple device on your tv. Plus, pandora and apple radio are great for music. We are buying a house so we will see what we do when moved. I miss HD sports, especially football. Other than that I have more than enough TV and movie options.
Anyone know the cheapest route to get this channel? I have tried Roku and I was not pleased with the time it took to download every show.
I've been wanting to do this as well. The only shows that were holding me back were Breaking Bad (now over) and The Walking Dead. With our little one, we might watch an hour or so of TV a night and some on the weekends. When TWD comes back on, does AMC have the new episode on their website the following day? Why can't we have "a la carte" tv service????
Just thought about this. Besides an "old timey" VCR, what options does one have for recording shows if only using a HD antennae?
Go to Hulu and Amazon I watch The Walking Dead on Amazon for $1.89 an episode and get to watch it the next morning
Waiting until the next day isn't bad.... I could do that. BUT I was mainly talking about recording any shows I would be getting from the over the air antenna. I googled it and see there are quite a few choices for such DVRs. I'm currently spending right at $100 a month for Directv and that includes HBO. Probably a better deal than some get but we still don't "get our moneys worth" anymore.
Look at Hulu they have the network TV shows on and that is just like a DVR watch it as much and when you want.
