My Kifaru Woobie ships from CO in 3 days. I like the mod this guy made on the ends (at the 2:55 minute mark) and am looking for a way to secure the sides to close it up like a sleeping bag. Some guys use mini-biners but that seems like a hassle. I was thinking a length of paracord threaded thru the loops would be an easy, lightweight alternative that would enable quick exit (just pull the cord out) but am open to any ideas. Also, many of the reviews biach about the loops on the Woobie being scratchy. I don’t wanna light the thing on fire but other than melting the loop ends more, is there any other fix?
You will probably do much better with this over at RokSlide. I haven't plate with the Kifaru stuff much, not sure about Trevor.
I won't be much help w a woobie. Personally I could never convince myself of their value. If its for use sitting in camp or while glassing, a puffy jacket will get you as much warmth for half the weight... If its to boost the temp rating of your sleep system, a warmer bag/quilt will weigh less than a combo of woobie and warmer season bag/quilt. Neat idea of gear though and some guys love theirs. I'd run the idea on kifarus forums for a quick answer.
Bruce, You should of just bought the Hill People Gear Mountain Serape. it can do what you want to do plus more. Very nice piece of kit. If your not familiar with Hill People Gear I highly recommend them. Lots of great stuff that they sell.
I hammock camp (those who saw the bison hunt video I posted last month saw the conditions) so i am thinking the Woobie can be used as an emergency blanket or blind on day hunts or an over or under quilt for nasty hammock camping. I wasn't "cold" last month but I coulda been warmer.
