is there any sorta standard as to when to change a bow string? I have a mathews Q2XL, can someone also give me some options as to where to find a replacement sting and cable. I noticed my string is getting a little "fuzzy", thus i'm guessing its time for a new one. I tried doing a search on here for information, but didn't find what I was looking for. Thanks in advance for any input!
Any authorized Mathews bow shop would either have them or be able to order them for you. As for a standard I'm not really sure I just go by looks like you are. when it starts to look too fuzzy and/or wax doesn't fix it it's time for a new one. Again a pro-shop could tell you for sure.
If its just fuzzy then it probably just needs a good wax. Hold old is the string and how much has it been shot and in the weather
Target shooters every year and sometimes twice a year. Depending on how much they shoot. Hunters every 3 to 4 years. Depending on how much they shoot. Fuzzing wax it well, fuzzing close to fraying replace. Hutch
The string is 9 years old, never out in the weather other than about 15 days of hunting, no rain. I don't shoot much.
If it was me...I'd have this guy build you one. His strings is all I shoot and will ever shoot as long as he keeps building them. Got them on both my bows and couldn't be happier.
My opinion is that bowstrings, and fletchings for that matter, can be changed whenever you want. Who doesn't like changing things up? Sometimes it can make an old bow feel brand new. That said, they should last you quite some time.
I agree, that much time, change it and get shooting more. It is always a good time to spruce up your bow.
Hey man I replace my strings and cables once a year but I shoot a lot. The company I always go with is Vaportrailarchery.com they have an amazing choice of colors and types of strings and get the strings to me at an amazingly fast timeframe and at a relatively low cost!!!! Check them out!!
What happens when a string breaks... check this out. http://forums.bowhunting.com/bowhunting-talk/39246-whack-ouch-now-what.html?highlight=whack+ouch Might want to get that string changed,
I have the original string on my '07 Vectrix and it looks brand new. I wax the string and cables 2 times a year. I also keep the Primos bow sleeve on my bow. It keeps the string AND cams in pristine condition, especially for when you're pulling your bow up off of the ground.
Your asking for it big time. You wax it twice a year?? You either don't shot enough or don't wax enough. I change strings every two years if not every year. You never know what's going on under your serving. Not worth the $80-$100 chance for me.
I just replaced the strings and cables on my 08 bowtech equalizer. They were quite fuzzy. I called it 'built-in string silencers'. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Good luck with that. That is an old string... If you're lucky you may notice a slight string creep, a little creaking sound or a sudden change in your peeps alignment. Or it may let go all at once. If it goes suddenly, there's no telling what else goes with it. Word.
I shoot about 10-12 shots every other day...sometimes I shoot everyday. I change mine once a year...well plan on it...lol. I always end up changing colors before then...lol.
Thanks for the concern, but I check my strings/cables very closely on a regular basis. "Enough" is relative.
