Your going to think I`m crazy, but we took the "backstraps" from a yote my dad killed. They are still sitting in our freezer. Everyone is to scared to eat it
I wouldn't know where to unload one nearby if I wanted to sell the fur. That being said, any coyote I see in range is shot. I don't mourn or put on a pedestal mosquitos, ticks, flies, mice or any other nuisance animal. I don't kill them for fun, I kill them because te population is out of control and wreaks havoc on the turkey population. Depending where they fall I leave them lay, or if too close to a deer trail I'll drag it off to a ditch or out of the way spot. If I could leave a deer lay overnight without worries I probably wouldn't be as adamant to shoot one, as they do have a role. But when they are on your quarry within a matter of hours they're too thick.
I don't think you're crazy, get back to me when you do eat them and I'll let ya know my thoughts then
I wouldn't say crazy, but I've know people that eat opossum. More odd than crazy ha. As far as the op's question, I look but not real hard. And if I do find it usually give it to someone else.
I would love to know where you can get 50 to 100 bucks for one... Ill become a full time coyote hunter.

X2. If you could get $100 for one there would be a lot more people trapping them. As far as the OP's question...when I shoot one I track it for the practice of blood trailing. I've shot several deer with my bow and no two blood trails are the same. And practice makes perfect. So I practice with a coyote if I shoot one. I've shot two that I can think of and they were both shot during the early season(sept) so the fur was no good. I left them.
I keep having close encounters with coyotes but have yet to draw on one. I would definitely recover him for the hide, I don't think I could leave it to rot
If I ever get another blonde phase I'll probably have a full mount done. Still regret not getting this one done

i just kill em and leave em. I don't have time to fool with them mangie things. sure do make good target practice though.

I shot one with a rifle in my pasture the day before yesterday, I dragged him into the woods so he wouldn't decompose within sight of the house. I have no use for them and I really don't believe his hide can get me $100.
If I ever kill one with a nice hide with my bow I would like to get a full body mount done. Outside of that the only one I killed I spent a few minutes looking for it. Found him relatively easy. I wouldn't lose sleep over it though, things seem to be everywhere around here at times.

I don't think them killing your calves justifies killing them and not even looking for them. I've had deer total 3 cars. That wouldn't justify me going out to the woods and killing deer just for the heck of it. I think its funny how everyone on this forum says to look for a deer until you have exhausted all options, because you have to respect something you kill, however, people don't even attempt to look for a coyote they shoot? Also, there was a post a while ago where a guy shot a chipmunk, and got grilled for it because he shot something that he didn't use, how is this different?
