Only the first buck counts for it's full score. A second buck can be used for the bonus 50 pts if you haven't entered a doe.
I am starting to see the mature bucks during daylight. Just haven't had the right one walk by yet. I will be out quite a bit now for a few days so hope to put a good one down soon! I put a buddy in a stand on Sunday morning and he had killed a really old 10 point that went mid 140's before 8 am. The buck made a big loop and died three feet from the base of his tree. lol
Left the office late, but got out for an evening hunt. I was able to slip into a ladder stand on cut corn and there were already deer within 100 yards. I got lucky and was not busted climbing in. I had not even sat down yet and a shooter buck came into the field. I ended up seeing three bucks that I would have shot. None were huge, but they were mature and solid 150's to 160's deer. Since I have two bow buck tags, I am going to take one of these older deer if I can. 39 yards was the closest any of them got and it was getting late enough that I was not going to take that shot. I had at least one of them and most of the time two of them within sight for the entire sit. They were scent-checking all the does and would harass any newcomer to the field. In all, I saw about 25 deer. It was a great sit for sure. Every one of them either entered or exited the field near the same tree about 150 yards from me. I am going to carry in climbing sticks and a hang-on for that tree the next sit there and probably watch them all spend their time under my ladder stand. lol
I passed up the best looking three year old last night that I have ever seen. He was a perfect 10 point that had deep forks on both G2's. Just like a mule deer. Really cool young deer. Would probably make low 150's already. I hope he can make it a couple more years. I saw several other younger bucks chasing does pretty hard. The three year old was just walking along following a doe and fawn.
Couldn't get it done this morning. Had a 160 8 60 yards away with a doe. Last day in Ohio hopefully I can get something. Passing on these 130s they are starting to look bigger.
Question for my teammates. I shot a doe yesterday morning around 6:50am, and waited till about 9am to start tracking. My son and I tracked her for all of 500 yards and she never once bedded down. The shot looked to be a little high. I know we did not push her and I am wondering why she did not bed down at all. We have coyotes in the area and I was wondering if one of them may have gotten on her trail and was pushing her. Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated. Was hoping to post 50 points yesterday. Bummed!!
Could be a number of things. Just remember these two things: 1- They are tough-*** creatures. 2- It takes a whitetail about 30 seconds to cover 400 yards if it wants to.
We're sitting in a better place now! Just gave a 120ish 7 point a dirt nap on video! Ill get some pics up tonight or tomorrow!
