There is a very real chance of this deer surviving if I gave him the walk. He probably has a better chance of getting hit my a car or something than getting shot by another hunter, short of getting poached.

Lee and tiffany can pass because they have a dozen more running around.

I'm not in that situation and if I get a chance at a trophy book class buck, ,regardless of age, im shooting

I'm not a gambler. But that wouldn't even be a gamble. I hunt almost entirely on public land, I'd never see that buck again if I didn't shoot him now. :)

I would not pass. If the thrill of killing a 180" whitetail is not enough you may want to move on to elk.

If I have anything to say about it, 180" buck is going home in the back of my truck....

and the Backyard Buck this year...

He is almost identical in frame and tine length as my buck last year "Grandpa" only minus a few stickers. Grandpa had 20 points but 4 were broken leaving 16 scorable points

The thrill would be amazing to kill a 180" deer but even greater of a thrill of killing a 200" deer considering he already has a 180" :p

Ha...I passed a 4 year old, three hundred incher just this morning because I thought he'd be a 400" next year.....

    Lol, jk....
I can't honestly answer that question....I think I would pass under the circumstances specified but maybe not. That's probably a decision I'd have to make in the stand.

I don't believe for a second that buck was a 2 year old 200 inch buck.

As for you Tom I'd pass him in your situation. You have good ground and chances of you getting another 180 are good.

I think you answered your own question with this statement.

I killed a buck that scored 181 5/8 back in 2010. I can't wait for the day that I see another buck of that caliber. I chased one in 2011 that was a clean 5x5, would have gone 175" easily, and he was without a doubt going to catch an arrow if I saw him.

Getting poached is a very VERY real problem with a buck of that size.99% of the population would shoot that deer and I bet half of those would shoot him when or where they see him.If you feel safe it wont get poached, let him walk and more power to you. I wish you nothing but the best and hope to see him next year at 200.
A 180 walks in front of me,I'm shooting it.

So if you add (2) 10 inch tines to the one you killed last year, you would feel better?

First off I would have to kill 2 deer at least to reach 200". So heck no I'm not passing.

I do however see your point, just hope you don't see the 180" first. :tu:

Tom man....tough tough tough...however....just think of the pay off if that comes to fruition....(I believe you are already or this thread wouldnt exist)....in your position exactly I would leave that deer alone and trail cam the crap out of him all off season then dedicate my entire 2014 season to harvesting that deer...thats an obsession sir....the pride....the satisfaction.....the GLORY....your at a different level now in your hunting career with a 180 class on the wall.....take a chance....let that deer go

No I was being sarcastic. It isn't an accident that I killed a 180 on the same property last year and have another now
