I got some pics of a spike with a black stripe up his back a little while back and got the right angle of a 5 pt Buck on the card today that has one too. Anyone else have ones like that? They look pretty sweet.

Typical teenage buck trying to look cool, he will grow out of this stage.

I'm interested to see if he keeps it with his fall coat.

To me it looks like hes missing hair? Shedding maybe or some kind of bug issue? Its on his neck in patches as well. Idk though

I'm not positive but I think that is his fall coat. Some deer I've seen are losing their summer coats at this time.

I saw the little hair issues too. That spike looks pretty rough with it, but I've had different angles at the other and he looks good. I think the spike was the only one I've had that looked like that so if there is some kind of a problem hopefully isn't in any others.
If they do keep the stripes so well defined sure would make a nice hide to have. If they keep it through some years would be sweet to watch grow and keep up with. Guess we'll see how season goes.

Here's one explanation I found real quick. Looked like a few others said similar. Interesting having two around if they're not very common.

Nothing more than him begining to transition to his winter coat. all my deer are looking like that now. Losing the brighter red coat and the winter dark brown / grey is coming in.

Ha! That's the first thing I thought. Pretty interesting, like the others I am curious if you can see it when his coat changes.

I've had pictures in the past of the same thing. It goes away when he gets his winter coat. Cool to see.
