My awesome wife and best friend surprised me this year and wanted a bow for her birthday so she could start hunting. I bought her a Mission Craze and she is shooting somewhere around 45 to 50 lbs. What broadheads would you advise for her first kill? I was looking at Muzzy Trocar's.

Muzzy's are always a good choice. The MX-3's are pretty good.

I was told that she was not shooting enough poundage to shoot expandable. I shoot rage and love them.

The Rage 40KE is for low kinetic energy bows or bows with a lower draw weight. I was in an accident and had to go down to a 40# draw weight. My archery guy who I very much trust recommended these over any fixed head.

My wife also shoots about 40 pounds and she shoots Magnus Stinger Broadheads. They are tough as nails, made in America, fly just like field point if the bow is tuned correctly, have a great lifetime warranty, and will give plenty of penetration. Look at the reviews they get online from people have been shooting them, they are an awesome head.

Wow. I'm sure you found the arrow, but did you ever find all the pieces of the squirrel?

I don't think the concern is whether or not the mechanical will open, it is that you will not get much penetration on a deer with such as low poundage. We always try for a complete passthrough. Mechanicals take extra energy to open up, especially those with a lot of cutting area. Not a problem for high poundage bows, but it can become a problem for low draw weight or short draw archers. This is especially true if you happen to hit bone. Go with a cut on contact fixed blade.

I'm kinda anxious to try out Carbon Express XT4s. Silver Flames at less than 25% of the $.
