Hey there all! I am just starting out with archery/bowhunting and am looking to purchase a recurve under $300. What are your guys' suggestions? Any and suggestions are welcome
I haven't got any yet, but looking for one for Christmas time or new year maybe. Not set on anything her but seen good reviews for the Martin saber. Sounds like needs a few changes out of the package to upgrade weak points but so far is definitely one I'm considering. I'm curious what others will say. I'm looking forward to getting into recurves too
Thanks for the suggestion Turro! I have been looking into Martin recurves a lot as well and they seem to be a good value from what I have read, minus things such as the arrow rest. I can't wait for all of the suggestions
the Martian jaguar is a sweet shooter and its in your price range with room for accessories Martin Jaguar Take-Down Recurve Bow
Thanks Dawn! That's actually the one I have been leaning towards because of its highly reasonable price and room for accessories like you said.
its a awesome bow and does the job. and i dont think you will here a bad review on it. love that you can break it down and throw it in a 3 day pack and take it on hikes. and the price point is amazing for a great product i would spend 200.00 and still be happy. Good Luck
If you're just starting out be sure not to over bow yourself. Get a bow in the 35-40 pound range. A take down bow that has interchangeable limbs is a good way to go. You can increase bow weight as you progress by just getting new limbs. Longer bows shoot easier than shorter bows. i.e.: 48", 50", 52", 56", 58", 60", 62", 64". A 58-60" bow is a good starter bow. I'd check on eBay for a used bow such as a Bear Grizzly. They're a one piece but inexpensive and tried and true good shooters. There are many others also. Wing, Shakespeare, Browning, etc. Ask many questions on tuning, form, arrow spine, draw length, forward of center and anything else you need to ask. Thank you very, very much Mr. Bowbender for your suggestions. I would like to ask, how do you tune a recurve?
Tuning is a multi-faceted process. It involves fistmele also called brace height, length and weight of the arrow, the arrow spine in relation to the point weight and the nocking point all for a particular bow weight. One must find the right combination of these things to get perfect arrow flight. Some of the things are elementary and easy to accomplish the rest are trial and error. Under $300 I wouldn't buy a new one. Look for a used Bear, Martin, Damon Howatt, or Ben Pearson. You can get a quality used bow in your price range if you look for one of these. Check out RMS Gear they have a great selection of used bows.
There mostly a target bow. I've never shot one but Hoyt is a very good brand. I wouldn't consider is a hunting bow. Sent from my iPad Mini using Tapatalk Bows, Broadheads and Backstraps
