A fine, take the rack? Yea, cuz that would really deter all the poachers out there. It's not just a deer, it's hundreds of thousands of them. Game laws need to be tougher, not lighter.
I agree with tacklebox. And whether "he knew" or not is irrelevant. In this country, ignorance is not a valid defense in any court room. I have no clue who the guy is, nor have I seen his show. That said, it's his responsibility to know the law before hunting; as it is for each and every one of us. And if I were a betting man, I'd bet my bottom dollar that he succumbed to his own personal weakness, brought on by having an opportunity to kill a 200+" buck. And with that, he got what he deserved. Period. Whether the sentence fit the crime or not... well, I promise you this guy is glad he wasn't in an Ohio court room.
Hundreds of thousands of them? The dude killed one deer. One. Only one. Not two. One. Game laws are plenty tough. Other laws in this country need to be tougher before we worry about taking up jail space because someone shot an oversized rat on the wrong side of the fence.
No, it's a privately owned forum. Remember, you were banned once for the things you were saying to other members. Seriously dude, you need to listen to yourself and stop. It's really embarrassing.
Yep the ban was for me saying some derogatory things and I came back and apologized for my behavior then. I simply made a quote on this thread to begin with and you got all butt hurt. Fear the wrath of Dan right?
Nope, but I have met him a couple times. If you think I'm sticking up for Spook, you're wrong. I'm talking about the sentences and the crime. I'm not hung up on who the offender is, like others are.
IMO, If game laws were tough enough, I think we would see less poaching. In MI, there are ppl who poach everywhere, esp on large tracts of national forest. We have called the DNR on them, and unless caught in the act, the DNR doesn't do anything in... my experience. Its like Canada, where if you have enough empty beer cans in a boat, no matter who drank them the driver gets a DUI(something like this). A little harsh? yes, but does it decrease alcohol in boats? U bet.
Do you even read what you type before hitting reply? Your first reply was a quote? Maybe you should go back and look at your first post in this thread.
When I was at Ft Campbell, poaching was a big pain in that area. We found a young buck and doe on the side of the road on post one morning, backstraps had been cut out and they ditched the deer in the drainage ditch. Several other incidents like that around the area, unfortunately there will always be someone who doesn't want to follow the rules and regulations and just out for the kill.
Hey maybe you should stop being so condescending and acting like you are better than everyone. I made the post of "don't try to reason with Dan" and apparently that struck a nerve with you. Settle down there high speed.
And gee sorry, maybe I should have said I made a comment instead of a quote so that you could understand it better.
Heres how I see it..... 1st time:Fines? Yep. Rack confiscation? Yep. Probation? Yep. Ban? yep 2nd time, while on probation. Fines? yep twice as much. Probation? yep, twice as long. Ban? Yep, for a good long time. Jail time? ehhhh maybe a bit much.
I've owned a resort in Ontario for 12 years and operated it the first 9. That's not quite true. You're allowed 2 cans of beer in the boat per person, while in the boat they have to be unopened or crushed. You can drink them on shore during lunch. This doesn't discourage anyone from drinking in the boat that I know of. I've also never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it, unless the driver is smashed, usually it's a warning and an explanation of the law. But my point was that we have bigger fish to fry and need to quit putting animals on a pedestal and focus resources on serious crimes.
It was or will be the top story on the 10pm news. Bank on it. Then at 10:08 we will hear about the children that were shot in the inner city or died from co-sleeping with their parents.
