I was wondering how many post I need to have to lose the "newbie" ranking and what the post requirements are for the next level.

    Thanks

    Matt

Why worry bout post count? Or Rank? Theres 50-60 year old guys with 40+ years experience that have that tag. Ones for time spent as member ones post count, and to answer your question i think its 100.

Numbers mean nothing to me on here as far as a goal of mine. I just like the info and resources available

Post count isn't the important thing here, it's all the great advice and stories and now the photos from the GTG that make bowhunting.com what it is! Oh, plus the show with Todd and his glasses and face paint!

    Don't stop at 60. I'd bet you can't stop at 70 either.

I think post count matters to some, but it shouldn't. I have seen some people get ripped because of it. A while back one of the best bow mechanics/tuners/archers in the country joined this fine forum. He got up to about 10 posts and left. He was ripped (by a select few) "what do you know with only 4 posts" and others like that. We all had 4 posts at one time. His tremendous knowledge, and willingness to share it, would have been a great thing for all of us. I have also seen this on other forums as well. On AT some are just in a post race, mostly with fluff to increase their number.

Can't we all just treat others with respect? You can disagree with an opinion, but there is no need to judge people by post count, bow make, hunting method or whatever. Until we get some background, you don't know if I have 1 year or 37 years of archery experience. Or if I have owned 1 bow or 20. Or if I shot 1 buck or 50.

For me, I think thousands of posts make me wonder. If these guys are such experts, why are they posting all day everyday? When do they work on bows to get all this knowledge? When do they shoot?

Junior, I apologize if I hijacked your thread. By all means, if post count is important to you, look at others numbers.

I keep trying to get Fitz to put me at 0. Hes says he cant.

    Weak sauce.

And post count means nothing, 8473 of mine were unimportant sports/music/pop culture blabble with the other 1000 being trail cam pictures and maybe a few hundred "prayers sent" or "Congrats!".

That leaves about 12 knowledgeable posts.

Its the same as anything in life...do you want surgery performed on you by the 23 year old brand new doc or the 54 year old seasoned surgeon?

As wrong and untrue as it is, post count is like "rep" here. The more posts you have, the more you must have discussed bowhunting. As you can see about my post above ^, entirely untrue.

siman is right about it being like a reputation but it doesnt mean that low posters have less knowledge. they just dont spend all their time on the forum.

Exactly. Maybe they have a life outside the Internet, right?

The surgeon analogy above is understandable but it doesn't really fit on an Internet forum.

I've seen a couple examples of members posting hunting advice who had not yet killed their first deer. I mean, WOW! 5000 posts? He must really know his stuff, right?

I've also seen very experienced hunters join this forum and get chided for offering technical advice with a "newbie" ranking as in the case mentioned above.

My take on it is that post count is totally irrelevant. All a 5000 or 10000 post count indicates to me is that the poster spends a lot of time on the Internet.

It's the content of their posts that matters to me.

I want to be a newbie forever(should mean I am younger) - that said I'd bet over 75% of my posts are just Pics.
