I'll be scouting next weekend, then the week after I'll be hunting for 3 days. Hoping to put us on the board then.

How is the rest of the team doing?

Seems like it takes so long to get here and passes too fast once it starts. I may have a new place to hunt this weekend. I should know tomorrow. :D

Good morning, birds gobbling all around, but something just seemed wrong when all birds had beards shorter than the decoy. just could not convince myself to draw and release.

I to am going to try a new place next week. The regular places I have hunted just don't have the birds on them this year. Going to see if I can't watch them roost on Sunday night and get up close to them on Monday morning. I agree with JGD. If you keep at it, you will get a shot. Good luck to everyone.

Well I struck out again this morning. Had a bird gobbling at me from 75 to 80 yards away and he just wouldn't come in. I had a great set up but he was hung up for some reason. I spotted him from the road and went past him and walked into the woods and made my set up in a clearing. I called and he immediately gobbled like he was interested. We talked to each other for 45 minutes and he shut up. I called sparingly so as not to over call and really thought he was coming in. When he stayed there I tried an old elk hunting technique and moved away from him and called hoping he would think I was leaving and come closer. I called a couple times, he gobbled and I moved back to my original spot. He gobbled again and then apparently left. I put almost 3 miles on the old legs, and I do mean OLD legs :D and never heard another bird. Next week is the last weekend. I hope to try again tomorrow and then at least one day next week. Hope you guys have some luck soon.

Hey Congratulations Illinois! Good work. That is one pretty bird. How far was the shot? Do you get to measure both beards for the contest? Very nice pictures too! :D.

Thank you! The shot was 9-10 yards, so nothing to far. No I didn't take both beards into account, can I? If so the other is 3 inches so that would put the beard length at a total of 6.5.

Congrats on the bird and absolutely all beards are counted in official scoring.
