Thanks Mike, another question. On roosted birds what king of decoy setup. My thoughts are only hens if a Tom can see the decoys from the roost he may wait on roost for them to come to him. Maybe add a Jake or strutter? What do you think?
I like to use two hens and a jake. Usually with one hen on the ground with the jake right behind, like a breeding pair. Drives the toms crazy.
Usually how I like to setup my decoys also. Hey good advice on setting up the night before. I've always put my blind up early and pretty much hunted that same spot through out the season. My hunting buddy and I were actually just talking about how we need to start being more mobile with our blind, and how we want to start roosting birds and then debate on where we want to setup the blind. I am going to try that tactic.
Probably can count bone_driven as a no show, if Cap wants to let Dubbya know maybe he can assign us an alternate!
Mike, Paul sent him a private message back on 3/28. I private messaged dubbya and told him he has not checked in on the team thread. I'm waiting on a response from dubbya at the moment.
Just a little thread bump......update. Team name - Final Roosting Place Team Captain - Jared (SparrowHawk) Fellow Bird Killers - Mike (msvoma44), Paul (purebowhunting), Kevin (MechDoc), In Da Woods MechDoc will be putting an avatar together for your signature lines, right Kevin? Welome aboard, In Da Woods. Mike
Hey all IDW checking in here at an alternate! I have the last season in Wisconsin, May15-21st. But with the weather being complete crap, cold/rain, I'm hopin I'll still find a couple of frisky toms lookin for some luvin and a broadhead.
this will be my first time out, so I'll see how it goes. I'm going to be huntin on the land that I deer hunt on. there were two set of turks on the land. No one else hunts there, so there is no pressure. I'm hopin to get out and put up some cameras & see what's going on. I've never been there during the off season. I'm going to try to borrow some decoys and calls.
IDW, find anything of interest at the show in Madison? It was great meeting you. I wish I would have had more time to talk, but you know how those shows are when you are with someone else. You want to stop and talk and they want to keep walking through the show.
same here, good to meet you and like you said the show is a busy place. As for finding stuff, like i always say, "it only takes money". There were a few things I'd like to pick up. the lighted nocks were cool, G-force activated, but $72; had a trophy ridge sight in my hand for $119, good price reg $150, but walked away a for an hour and GONE! The turkey decoy tom & 2 hens for $36 i really debated but never bit the bullet. I bought just some small stuff. Alot of bow companies this yr. How bout you, loosen your wallet?
I didn't buy anything at the show, but I bought a new blind and chair at Cabelas on Friday night before the show. Do you know another forum user with the name "madhunter"? Is his name Shawn Meyers. I used to hunt with him. Mike
well I'll be damned. where & how did you meet him? I used to know him. he was a member at my church. He went thru a divorce and just went off the radar, never heard from him till about a month ago on here and again nothing.
Same thing happened here. We bow hunted with him for a number of years and then he started back to school, got divorced, and dropped off the face of the planet. He still doesn't answer any PMs or emails, either. If you happen to see or hear from him, give him some grief for me....lol.
Yup that's his norm. He's done that to a few of us. Drops off then pops in to say hi, then gone again. I don't get it. Hell of hunter though. He's got real sweet land to hunt on. Got a couple of bruisers in the day. Too bad lost touch with him.
