I love the show as it is but I would love to see more behind the scenes planning and strategies of the hunt. Topo, aerial maps and graphics showing game trails, entrance routes, bedding areas, escape routes and all the details that make bowhunting so challenging. That's where the real skill in bowhunting lies in the strategy and execution. So if that was integrated into the show we could really appreciate the knowledge gathered and the work put into the deer taken. It'd be cool to eventually catch on to certain guys strategies and skill levels and see how it works out for them.
Dean, Nice to read a bit about you. I really enjoy watching your hunts and commend you for making your family your first priority! Good luck this season.
I was thinking about the topo/map request, and respecting the privacy as well as the graphics concern...certainly there is some interest in learning map reading/using the topography. What about a low tech/retro and scratch it out in the sand (or one of those mini zen gardens if you want to do it post production), whiteboard, tablet sketch or even a separate segment from the desk using a representative map? Another alternative would be to just encourage the prostaff to describe arm wave/verbally the land, to help envision 'Why did you setup there'--pinch point, trail cam pics, patterned, known bedding/food sources, travel coridor, etc.
I kind of like this chalkboard/whiteboard idea. Maybe just draw a little map of the basic area showing what we're doing and why we're setup there. I'll see what we can do with this. On one of my hunts last week I tried to do a good job of setting up the where/why and literally an hour later I had a shooter do exactly what I wanted, only he got my wind about 10 yards before I could shoot him and took off. I'm gonig to try and squeak that in for this week, but it may get bumped till next week. I'd like you guys to take a look and tell me what you think when it airs.
If you guys are having such a hard time getting footage into the show due to time constraints, why dont you make the show a few minutes longer?
Sounds cool Justin. Too bad you got busted. It'll be neat to see how you adjust your stand or wait for the perfect wind.
Simple - people don't watch longer. Unfortunately this is the Internet and people's attention spans are VERY short.
PT - go ahead and put an audition tape together and send it in. We'll put it up on the site and let people see how good you are on camera. PS - you do realize that shooting deer is a requirement to be on the show, right?
I think it's a great idea! I can hear the Veggie Tales music start playing and Justin's voice comes on and says "And now it's time for Silly Shots with Tony."........ I think this move would allow them to move from an online show to Versus or the Outdoor Channel.
I've always thought a 'Pimp my hunt'/'Overhauling'-like hunting show would be a sponsor's dream for public land hunters... I will gladly provide my coordinates
I can't remember who I talked to, but someone in the industry had an idea to do this type of thing. Not sure if it would ever come to fruitition or not, but I think it's a cool idea. What I'd like to see is someone fron the Internet who complains about all the TV celebs shooting biggeer deer than them and how easy it is be given all new gear and a 100 acre farm in IL and then turned loose with a camera man and see how they do. I would expect two 150" bucks on the ground before Halloween.
I bet I could do it in Kansas on my main spot then again, I'm not claiming you guys only get it done because of your gear, either.
