As some of you know I shot a nice buck this week. I wanted to let you know how the NAP Spitfires worked. I've read a few threads on here where people said they didn't open. I'm not shooting the MAXX just the standard with chisel tip. 125gr. I shot my deer slightly quartering away at 22yards. I did not get a full pass through (kinda). My arrow was buried to the fetching with most of the arrow sticking out his left side. The blood trail didn't start for 50 yards but then it was like a river. Especially when he broke the arrow off. Flight 10/10 Blade Deployment 10/10 Penetration 8/10 Blood Trail 9/10 (would be 10/10 if I got full pass through) These are a great head, this is my first year with this head and I will be using them for years to come. I shoot 60# draw and a 29" draw length.
Carbon Expess Vrs Spitfires Yea I was just talking to my Buddy about the spit-fires. He said he shoot those and the 3 blade rage, after my lost buck yesterday I am definitely switching to a deeper penetrating broad head other than the Carbon Expresses that I have been using. Even though they did kill the doe with good pass-through they just don't have what it takes for the big boys.
Over all a good head. If G5 still made the Teken II with the o-ring, I would buy those, but now they have a spider clip system I don't like. the Teken II was an amazing head.
If people rely upon the broadhead for extra penetration you're fooling yourself. Your arrow set up is more pivotal than what pointy sharp object you put on it's tip whether that is fixed, mechanical, hybrid...Rage, NAP or Walmart brand.
I disagree, if you have a 500 grain arrow and an aluminum grade two blade broad-head and you get into some heavy bone even with the heavier arrow weight and added kinetic energy, if that metal flash heats and mushrooms out you ain't going no Where.
Don't get ridiculous...pick any broadhead of the mainstream hunting world (even generic ones really) and they'll all do their job if you do yours....and fyi if you hit truly heavy bone you probably mis-hit
Yea I definitely mis-hit no doubt about it, I just cant believe that arrow did not push through more. I did not do my part to the standard that is for sure. So I think I'm going to go with the Rage 2 blade instead of the Carbon Express torrid.
I agree with the word MORE in your statement. However, All things being equal you can not argue with the difference in forward deploying mechanical (i.e. Spitfire) VS a rear deploying mechanical (i.e. Killzone). The theory is with rear deploying you will lose less energy and have a better opportunity for more penetration. All things being equal.
NAP Spitfires seem to be a very deadly broadhead. My dad has been using them for years now, and they have never failed him up to this point.
X2 have killed a pile of bucks with them. A couple bear, a mule deer and speed goat.... Always worked good. I really like the Spitfire Edge and I have quiver full for my next couple weeks in Ohio. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
^^ That's awesome! They are a great head! I wouldn't recommend them for anyone shooting a light arrow setup or lower than 55# of draw weight.
i am like 10 for 10 on deer with spitfire maxx heads. i love them and they do a great job. i do agree that they are not for all and you need to be shooting a larger poundage to get them to pass. all in all if you can hit your target your going to kill the deer
it's more than just draw weight, but if you have enough arrow weight and the correct spine. Yes, you will have no problem with spitfires.
I concur on the Spitfire Maxx. It has worked every time for me. The deer have always gone down within sight. I know I probably just cursed myself by saying that but they make a very large hole and lots of blood if it were necessary to follow. It just hasnt been up to this point.
