I've cooked a few. I found it good but hard to get tender.
Now the liver on the other hand. I wouldn't feed that to my dogs. Deer liver is just horrid! Beef liver is great though.

My grandma would take the heart and cook it and the thin sliced it (like a roast beef) and feed usthis for many years. I loved it.

I have not had deer heart but did eat caribou heart at camp in Quebec. We sliced it and pan fried it with onions. It was good and I would think deer would be similar.

MMMMM! chopped onion - sliced bell pepper(I like hot so I add a sliced jalepeno) - tsp minced garlic - 8to10 whole allspice - tsp salt - deer heart...put in a large pot of water and bring to a boil for one hour....then simmer overnight(I do this on a little wood stove in the garage)....slice it up and enjoy! tender as the tender loins....also do this before pickling

btw - just had my leftover heart for lunch yesterday...just as good cold

Best part of the deer. Stir fried with pepper, onions and gravy over toast is incredible. Never had a problem with it being tough.

Best part of the deer! We used to slice up the heart and liver and cook them in butter and onions. Now we just cook up the heart because deer and more plentiful.

I wait till i get 3 or 4 of them and then cook them in a slow cooker for 12hrs on low with a onion and a half clove of garlic
Then i make a mushroom cream sauce with some garlic bread and BAM! ( lil salt )

The past couple of years I've given hearts and livers to the dog. I'm not a big fan of deer liver and while I like deer heart... my dog likes it better. You should see her happy dance when I come home with a deer.

Haha, this brings back memories. My grandpa always used to hand me a plastic bag before going out hunting and said, "if you get one, save the heart and liver." I always just laughed and said how nasty that was, but that was when I was young. I still don't eat them but every time I gut a deer, I can't not think of him handing me that plastic bag.
