Disappointed

I was really disappointed and heartbroken last night as I read the story of the 15 year old kid from Missouri who was obviously concerned because he had damaged his only hunting clothes. He reached out for ideas from people he looked up to as experienced hunters. What he got back was demeaning, critical, nasty feedback. Shame on those of you who responded as if this kid had no feelings. You embarrass me. I guess you needed to fuel your own egos. I feel sorry for you that you were never taught what hunting is "really" all about. There is no need to respond to this thread. I am done with Bowhunting.com as I do not want to be associated with people who think it is ok to treat a kid and fellow hunter that way.

 

There were some people reaching out to him too tho...

 

This is an emotional sport. For some it's a 30 day past time. For others it's a way of life. I'm not condoning or reprimanding anyone, including the kid. Children have always had the internet, they are used to coming on here and telling the world about their problems. In some aspects it's great, in most it should be saved for personal conversations with friends. I'm an avid motorcyclist, I ride crotch rocket style bikes and currently own two. I don't like everyone who owns a motorcycle and I'm not going to pretend I do just because they are in "my group". The real lesson here is there are A$$holes everywhere in this world, in every sport and every job. If you aren't willing to put up with them, life will be long and hard for you. Again, who am I to judge what someone says over the internet? I think you putting everyone on bH.com in the same box is a little closed minded. Everyone is different.

There seemed to be absolutely no remorse whatsoever. Sometimes a hard dose of reality is the best medicine. The only ideas he reached out for were to ask what he should do about new hunting clothes! He claimed to have already "forgotten" about the poor shot. What he got back was a slap on the wrist and an opportunity to think about the big picture. Exactly what he needed. I was always taught that respect for the outdoors and game I hunted/trapped was first and foremost. It seems I was not in the minority there according to numerous other responses.

If he had shown one ounce of remorse, I would have been one of the first to offer help with new clothes. I have given away several safety harnesses here. I have sent cash to people to help buy their kids bows. I have sent hunting equipment and offered hunts to others. I have never met any of these people, but they were all "hunters". Leave the judgement to someone that is qualified.

Doesn't sound to me like someone who doesn't have respect for the animals. So his thread about his clothes were a completely separate issue all together. I'm kinda in the same boat as Straight Shooter, lost a lot of respect for a few people on here for sure.

 

Ok guys. I had already made another post about losing the deer and being upset about it. I had alot of remorse but because of what guys said here and over at AT I was ready to get back out there. The deer is ok. It may have come across that I had no remorse but really I did and expressed that on other threads. I was ready to get back out there and really enjoy the woods again and then relized about my clothes. Thanks to the guys that are helping me out. Hunting/Trapping and Fishing are a way of life for me and I love it. Can't we just stop the bashing and start acting like hunters and outdoors men.

My dad was not the biggest hunter but when he took me out in the woods the one thing he instilled into my brain was to respect the animal that you are hunting. That is the first thing I will teach my kids once they are old enough to join me.

Yeah I think it's time to move on. This is a good example of bad communication and I would like to think there were lessons learned here. Step back and look at the information as a whole, not just focused in on one little bit or assumption.
