I am tossed up about these new rage extremes..im positive about using them on whitetails here in wisconsin but need some help about possibly shooting elk with them?! I am shooting the Monster MR6 at around 74lbs with a 410 grain arrow..what would you guys think? it would be greatly appreciated! or if anyone has shot an animal with them yet being new this year? Thanks!
I would absolutely not, nor any mechanical for that matter. I would also look into uping arrow weight.

What arrows are you shooting? Depending on your arrow length you could add weight tubes and achieve a heavier weight. 1 GPI tubes would put your around 440, 2 GPI would go around 470. Shooting an MR6 at 74#'s is a perfect excuse to go heavy, even for whitetail. You have a ton of speed to spare.

I shoot an MR6 at 80lbs, 28" and shoot a 484g arrow, and because my FOC is a little low I'm going to up my head weight to see gow it flys. So ill be up around 509g. And yeah, I pretty much only hunt whitetails.
They are not even legal in some Western states. In others, many outfitters will not allow them in camp. That should tell you everything you need to know.
So I thought I would put my .02 in on this topic. Last January I used a mechanical NAP Spitfire on a mule deer. I hit the deer in the front shoulder and got about 2 inches of penetration. I also was using a Matthews Switchback with 27" draw and about 60lb pull. I was not impressed. Now this year I know a couple of guys using mechanicals on both deer and elk. A buddies dad shot both a buck and a bull elk with a NAP Spitfire. He was using a new G5 Prime. Another buddy at work killed a cow elk this weekend with a swacker and a G5 Prime. I don't think I trust them but to each his own.
where I live we bow hunt nothing but Elk and mule deer. Me and one of my sons used rage for two years and went back to fixed heads. We hit 3 elk with them. Two of those elk we tracked for ever. We did get lucky and find those two but the penetration was not good at all. One head only one blade deployed. That elk was at 51 yards but the other elk was only a 28 yard shot. My son was the one who hit the mule deer and it hammered him. On deer I would use them but elk I wouldn't. Elk are a big tough animal. Like everybody else that's just my experience and opinion
To much kinetic energy is wasted to deploy the blades. Go with a good fixed blade like shuttle T-lock or nap hell razor.
I shoot the shuttle T-Locks and really like them. Its a very tough broad head and I've had no problems with them. Hoping to try them out on elk and black bear this weekend.
