Maine moose hunt

    Im going to be putting in for the lottery for the 2012 season, but i have a couple questions.

    1. When is the deadline to apply?, or when can you begin to apply?

    2. Are the tags zone specific or can you go anywhere?

    3. When is the best time to hunt, and are the tags for a certain season?

    4. If i were lucky enough to get a bull how would i go about getting it out of the woods?

    Ditto the link above. The site above should answer all you questions..
    I been putting in for the past 13 years....no luck yet. . Yes its zone specific....That is something you need to be careful off as some of the southern most zones are harder to find access to hunt.
    The season runs a about a week...So you forget about BEST times and hunt all day every day till you kill a bull. Lots of man power and equipment gets bulls out of the woods...4 wheelers trucks/ winch ect.....Maine used to have a law that stated the moose had to be brought in to the check station whole...I dont think that the case anymore but I may be wrong.

    You also choose the type of tag...Bull/ either sex / cow ect.....I only put in for bull tags, figure if I am doing all that work I might as well shoot a good one. Spent a ton days deer hunting and hare hunting Main over the years and I have seen some really nice Bulls...

    trial153- When you have been applying did you only put in for one chance or multiple? My neighbor has gone to maine several times over the past couple years but he puts in a lot of entries.

    The last few years i been putting in 10 chances....If he has drawn more then once for an out of state tag then he must have sat on horse shoe......They only allocate about 3 percent of tags to non res. My friend drew the year before last...he been build points for 22 years and drew on the 23rd.

    Wow! he must be lucky. I had no idea the only gave 3 percent to non residents. Thanks for the info
