Ok guys, today is going to suck!!! Somehow I have to get through 8 more hours of work in an 85 degree office before I can head into the mountains. Somebody make the clock go faster for the next 8 hours and then slow it down for the next week... please!

Can only speak for Montana, but the bulls are talking. Still not responding to calls that much but they are with the cows and bugling. Full moon is the 14th, I think, so we will see how that goes. Hunting, from a calling standpoint, usually slows down around then. Will pick up usually around the 19th or 20th

North Central Colorado, the elk were not talking the end of last week but they were coming in quiet to cow calling with the occasional bugle. I think they were more curious than anything. My main focus last week was to get my dad a chance on one, and we did... but he missed. He thought the bull was at 40 yds but the bull was actually at 50 and he shot under. The next evening we called in a couple of spikes but no shooters.

Talked with my buddies last night (they are up all this week) and he said they are starting to talk a lot. They have been in the thick of them for the last few days, but just haven't been able to get one down yet. He said that cow calling isn't working very well but they are bugling back.

This is very good news for us. We hunt an area that has a very low success rate, but is close to home so we can hunt it more. To be into this many elk this early in the season holds a lot of promise for us! Hopefully I will be able to post up some pics from last week soon.

My plans changed from heading to northern colorado opening day to leaving this friday and heading 3 hours west. A friend of mine got to within 20 yards of a nice 6x6 on opening day but never could get a clear shot and filled his tag this past weekend on a 5x4. The reports are good so hopefully by tuesday I will have some shots and good reports, the weather is cooling so that is a plus!

ANY elk taken with a bow on public land is a trophy in my opinion!
