I was thinking about it, but the only spring hunt round' here is on tribal land and requires a guide, I'd rather wait and go myself this fall! :tu:

I have a friend that goes every year for Spring bear. He claims it's 800 bucks plus beer and gas. I'm getting closer to going one of these year. I'd say within 5 years I could make that happen, but first comes the house this Spring and then the second child the year after. Who knows what life holds, but I'd like to think I could get up there after those two hurdles. :)

Depends on where you go for sure, in Maine it's $114 for a nonresident big game licence and $74 for a bear permit

Sounds like it to me, that'd be tough though you'd want to be sitting over a bait site.

I'm not sure what he's charging this year but the owner of the proshop I help out at is a master Maine guide and does bear hunts every year, lodging and food included. PM me if you want more info, our area has one of the highest pop. densities in the state.

Baitings definitely the most popular method of hunting bear here. Yeah most guys use a sidearm handgun or rifle doesn't really matter.
