Oh man Troy, that's some excitement there. Hope you drill that bad boy! But if you wait a few more days, I can help you pack him out! :)

Troy, are they responding to calls well down there? The bulls up here will answer back but they won't work with the calls. Still coming in silent. This week should see a pick up in calling responsiveness. Next week should be mayhem.

One reason I always wait till the last week...every year I read the same statement.

Of course its statements like that which make the drive (which starts tomorrow nite) easy to not fall asleep

Agreed. Anytime in the elk woods in a special time. However, the last week is the point in time where you reach the "hunting heaven". If you hit the perfect few days in that final week it's almost uncomprehendable. This is why I bowhunt elk.

Well my elk season is done. I got in 5 days of hunting and 3 days of scouting and didn't get anything. I have never hiked up and down so many mountains before in my life. My only close encounter was a cow at 70yards which I saw just after I cane over a hill and she saw me too. My dad had a nice 6x6 come into his stand and wandered around at 15-30 yards for a while but never gave him a shot. My bro brought out one of his buddies who just got into bowhunting this year. Lucky bastard was the only one to get a shot off. He had the elk at 20 perfectly broadside and the nerves got the best of him. He lifted his shot right over the elks back. The sound of the massive animal thrashing every tree on the way in and screaming at them scared him pretty good. But at least it was a clean miss and a good learning experience for him. Looks like I'm down to hunting deer now.

Sorry to hear that no meat is coming home, Jay. I would have loved to have seen your brothers friend while attempting that shot. I bet his heart was pounding a little, huh?

yeah it was pretty funny. I wasn't with them that day as I went to a different spot but heard it was hilarious. He goes from never hunting before to his second ever day hunting and having a big bull coming in screaming and trashing bushes and stopping 20yrds from him. After the shot I guess he stood up immediately and yelled my brothers name out in disgust ruining any chance of calling the bull back in. The guy is around 6'3" and 220lbs and when I asked him if he was big all he could say was "a he'll of a lot bigger than me". He didn't even have a clue of how big his rack was or anything. Good thing my bro saw and knew he was a legal bull.

Heading out again tonight after work for a few days. This week should bring us some heavy calling action and rutting bulls! Should also have some new bulls moved into the area. Work is going to suck:rant:
