I love Toyotas, but I think I'd pass right now. I loved their dependability and resale value. Both have taken a hit recently.
If I were looking for a vehicle right now, I'd be comparing Nissan/Toyota/Ford (most likely would be looking for a truck). I'd walk away with whatever I felt would be the best deal for a vehicle with less than 20k miles, less than 3 years old, and had the accessories I wanted. If Toyota had the best deal, then yes........I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Now would be a great time to pick one up at a reasonable price. I picked my Titan up when the gas prices were over $4 a gallon, because I knew they were coming down eventually and the deals on bigger trucks were amazing at that time. When I got my truck, it was just barely 3 years old, had 18k miles, and I bought it for less than half of the original window sticker price that was included in the glove box. Right now on similar trucks, if I look on Autotrader.com, I'm seeing them listed at $5k-$8k more than I paid for mine. I'm sure if someone was looking for a vehicle now, that you could probably find a Toyota with a similar deal.
Yes, without hesitation. This could only of hurt their sales which means better deals for me should I decide to make a move. Oh and don't forget every car manufacture has hundreds of recalls all the time. Some of you act like other car manufactures never have had some safety recalls. I remember some GM cars in the mid 90's that were recalled for losing their steering and causing crashes. It was on the news but never publicized like this is. Overreaction is the word that comes to mind.
Resounding YES. I've owned probably...............4 of them (recalling, quickly). I'd buy another one, tomorrow, were I in the mkt. I should have also asked......."Would you have bought a Toyota, before the recent recalls/issues"? I'm guessing (and some eluded to it) many of the "no's" wouldn't have, under any circumstance. Duke....Your "neighbors" (if you're referring to your fellow Americans) are currently building a LOT of Toyotas.
Nah...owned one once for a month..not my style. I like Ford Trucks and Chevy Cars...so I'm not brand loyal per~say
In recent history........Toyota has surpassed the "big 3" in sales. Citing this......who's employing more of your "neighbors"? The guys making more cars......or less? The US auto industry (mfr's) is broken. It has little to do with the workforce....and a lot to do with the unions. If you want to see more of your neighbors working, I'd look in that direction (personally) and assign the blame where it truly belongs.
I didn't want to say it and start an all out "union war". But I could not agree more. Toyota makes enough cars in the US to be able to join NASCAR. You could make a good argument they must be putting quite a few people to work. I think the bottom line of Jeff's question is has these safety recalls changed your opinion on Toyota?
Well-put. Some would have NEVER bought one. Nothing wrong with that. But, the recent recalls/issues were never going to be a mitigating factor with these folks, anyway.
this. I would have considered one prior to all this though doubtful i'd actually have bought one because of how dull and uninteresting their vehicles are (the FJ being the lone exception)... but now i wouldn't even consider one... I'll spend my time considering between a malibu and a fusion, and f150 and a ram, an explorer and acadia, etc....
