Update from stand, the farmer is baling the hay. I’m tucked 30yds inside the field edge, just had two basket racks come by.
Thanks for the photo compliments all. Wasn't planned but I think it really did turn out quite well. Still think one of the very best picks I've ever seen was from a member here with 3 kids in a duck blind. Can't remember who it was though?
I did, but all I saw were two squirrels. There aren't even enough squirrels moving to keep it entertaining. It'll happen eventually though. I only own a small slice of the travel corridor. I could go to other places but since I'm heading to Arkansas early Friday morning for the Saturday opener I'm just sticking around here this week.
Saw 7 different bucks and got greedy, let the does walk. The one buck was real nice but never got closer than 50yds. Was a great first sit, I’ll be back at it Wednesday evening.
We drove to the top of a nearby mountain to start the day. Nothing like a below freezing morning at 11,600 to take your breath away. We tried to stay a couple hundred beyond get below tree line. Busted 1 bull. Couldn't get any responses to any calls or bugles. The afternoon we headed up to a spot the state parks officer suggested. I think we ran into Pedro Anpuerco...or his twin. Glassing from a high point before we zipped down the road and got into the woods. We hit some seriously gnarly terrain, nearly got cliffed out twice, a thundershower turned to snow. We got wet and cold and saw no elk. Nearly got a mule deer fawn on the way back to camp. Bad day. View attachment 168479
Wow, that's an amazing picture Bill! It really puts things into perspective how hard you have worked getting into that kind of shape to be able to do that! It's very inspiring and I hope it all comes together for you!
