Any tips that you have figured out with saddle hunting once you started using one?

I would say its a feel as you go process. There are little things you slowly learn over time that will also be particular to your certain gear. Not every tree is the same so learning which way to orient your steps and how high or low to set your tether and bridge. If they arent set right they can pull you to one way or the other. I even fell off my platform once.

You definitely want a decent set of kneepads. Not a bulky pair but comfortable. I find these are nice anyway navigating through the woods. If you have to crawl or even just take a knee to hide they are comfy and keep your knees dry.

you will be a little sore and it will seem awkward at first. This seems to be where a lot of guys throw in the towel. Like anything new you just have to build the muscle memory and get comfortable shooting while leaning into the tether at all different angles. Sometimes keeping both feet planted on the platform is best while shooting other angles setting one knee or foot into the tree is best. The only way to figure it all out is to commit to it and do it over and over.

if you hunt a bunch of public like i do then the benefit’s definitely outweigh the negatives.

I like to have say 7-10 permanent stand locations on private ground but i will mix in using my saddle just to not be patterned or educate the deer.

There are definitely some accessories im glad i bought. The plastic S-biners by Nite-eyez. And the biner that has a hook on it as well that i use for bow hanger. Hope this helps some.

    Yeah thanks.
I hear the knee pad thing often. I'll have to pick up a pair and then yeah it will be a trial and error things to see what I like. I just want to get comfortable with it and use it as needed. Next year I should draw a iowa tag with a couple buddies. And want to have my set up dialed in since we will be hunting public there.

Still rocking the elite e32 from 2014. I went to shoot all the new bows this year and almost pulled the trigger on the hoyt vtm. Unexpected costs from other life events made me pull back but im still considering it. Kids and stay at home wife are quite the expense. Well worth it though.

Ill be shooting the old trusty Z7 Extreme again. I had a Triax but got limbs and modules and fit it to my son two years ago so old Dad had to knock the dust off one of the old ones Worked just fine last year.

Planning on trouncing around on Mark Twain quite a bit here in MO in the early season. Aiming for 2 week day hunts and 1 weekend hunt in Sept and Oct. Heading south to my family’s small property in the bootheel I’m November and will spend most of the remaining season down there with exception to week days.

Got some great bucks I’d love to get an encounter with. Doe numbers (camera wise) seem to be a little lower this year but it may be the fluke of the camera and my scouting.

    Goodluck in IL!
