We call him tripod. He's missing from the knee down on his back right leg. He's pitiful when you see him walk but keeps after the does no problem. We guess he's 3 1/2 years old.
I'll be near Crested Butte. OTC this year as nobody drew a tag even though all expected to. I'm sure it's going to be crazy busy but it is what it is.
They are amazing with thier recovery ability. A buddy of mine shot one that was blind in one eye and had a broken front and back leg while chasing a doe. He said you wouldn't have known it was injured by watching it run that doe.
Man that one buck looks crazy. He must have been hit by a car or something. That would be cool to get that one.
I work in Hagerstown. I sure hope it gets cooler before your season starts. It's supposed to be 96 degrees for Labor Day and the day after.
It's OTC so I'm going in with low expectations and open eyes. I was able to arrow one last year. Slipped the arrow right over a horizontal log and it the spot I aimed for. I had it on film and didn't know he stepped down a foot when I drew as he worked right to left. I thought I smoked him. The film showed otherwise. Shoulder blade hit. 2 to 3 inches of penetration. Story of my life if you ask my wife. HA!
Fellas, this wolf issue is driving me crazy. Had them howling last night at about 7 which is still sun up. Had them all over the cams last night. Last night just had a deer feeding in the field type feel to it.. Most years we have 30 between the three fields on a slow night. Zero last night. Most I've counted all summer was 8 and I haven't seen more than three in a couple weeks. It really bothers me that so much time, effort and money I put into my property is dictated by a bunch of PETA types in the state and federal wildlife agencies. Bottom line is deer hunting sells property around here. The fact we are not controlling the wolf population in Wisconsin drastically lowers my land value for resale even though I'm sure the tax man won't think see it that way. I have a lot of public land around me and I enjoy hunting it. However, the decimation of the herd on my own slice is pretty disheartening and I can't help but feel that some of my dream has been stolen from me.
Gotta love tree huggers! They only consider their wishes and the hell with the animals that have value to the community gets pushed aside in the name of environmental equality. Gold Silver Copper They all have value but at what cost
I told you if it's on their land it's their wolf. If it's on yours then it's yours. If it's so protected then they should pay for every deer that they kill on your property. Until people start standing up and saying, "not on my land" the govt will continue to push the BS.
I posted this in the Smacktalk thread, but I'm going to post it in every team thread so no one misses it: I want to take a minute and clarify a rule in the contest and emphasize the importance of getting your required two different photos with the buck, the bow and you in the pics for entry on the Official Scorecard. The rules read: Scoring system will be as follows: Each participant is allowed to enter ONE antlered deer as their “Buck Score”. This must be the FIRST antlered deer that you harvest during the season. We had an instance last season where someone in the contest killed a buck but failed to get pictures of the buck. This not only resulted in the buck not being counted towards the team total (of course), but also prevented him from entering another buck killed later. ONLY the first buck you kill can be entered, so make sure you don't make the mistake of not getting TWO good pics that have you, the bow and the buck in them.
Thanks again Johnny! Even though most of us have been in this for many years. I almost caught myself fogetting a time or two. We get so wrapped up in the moment of the blessing of a big buck we forget about the contest rules.
It’s just a reminder for us old fossils. I just wasn’t sure if everyone was aware that if you blow it on your buck you won’t get to enter another one.
Past couple days have been gorgeous. It was mid 50s when I woke up to feed the baby this morning. Sunday is going to be stupid hot. 96°
