Saw 4 does and 2 bucks in neighbors pasture tonight. About 60-80 yards from my stand. One buck was a shooter I've had on camera. Someone shot its leg last week. He was hobbling around on 3 legs tonight. Front right one was pretty messed up.

I think I might have underplayed the joking aspect of that… take a closer look at that buck… the elusive whitetailed angus

Well guys, I apologize for my absence this entire season. I have a lot going on and was not able to make it to the stand very much. I am done bowhunting this season and didn't get to contribute anything. I did have an absolutely amazing shotgun season here in Illinois and was able to get a 13 point opening morning and then a stud 8 point the next morning. I know that doesn't help us much with the bowhunting contest but it was great.

I'm still hunting 1 or 2 times a week. Still no shooter bucks seen since before Thanksgiving. I got til January 31 and will keep going. So tough this time of year with all the gun seasons. Going to try a bow only area tomorrow. Don't have much scouting of area, but will try to scout my way in and see what happens.

Its been crazy slow around here. Went out last Thursday and Friday evening and Saturday morning but didn't see a thing. Saturday evening I did see one deer, right at last light, but it was too dark to see any details. It was alone so I'm thinking it was a buck, but other than that it could've been anything from a 16 pt wallhanger to an emaciated button buck. Going to go out this evening too. Really hoping that upcoming snow storm makes it this far East. I love to go out in the snow, find some tracks, then sneaking up on the deer that created them. Rarely get to do it since we usually dont get snow until January or February.

Well tonight was an interesting hunt… saw a couple small does an hour before sunset, but once the sun went down things got really interesting…. Heard a ton of noise coming from the other side of a ridge. Couldn’t see what it was but definitely too much noise to be a deer and too dark to be golfers looking for a lost ball. Right as I stood up and turned around to try and see what was going on a dozen or so armed and fully kitted out special forces guys came over the hill top heading my way. Walked right under my deer stand. They all had night vision but didn’t notice me until I hollered down at them. Guess my camo isn’t half bad (or more likely - they just weren’t looking for somebody hiding in a tree). The black hawks have been shaking the house all night for the past few days so I knew robin sage was going on and that they were green beret candidates. I live right smack dab in the middle of the peoples republic of pineland and they were on a mission to liberate our “country”. Basically it’s this thing the army does several times per year where part of rural North Carolina - aka the peoples republic of pineland - gets taken over by a tyrannical government so they send in the special forces cadets to train and support the local militia. It’s like the final test they have to pass to become full fledged green berets.

I’m out this morning trying to take down a doe with a gun. The activity at my spots have decreased tremendously. In a two week span, I had 9 pictures of deer. I do plan on hunting about 5 days down south in January, after that I’ll be transitioning to ducks and crappies and catfishing. As I get older these seasons sure do come and go faster and faster.

I missed another doe on Saturday. Shot right under her and shaved the white hair off her belly. Shot Bo on Sunday to see what's going on and bow was shooting 2-3" low atb20 yards. There's my problem. Couple quick adjustments and back on. I may not get on stand til early next week. Maybe Monday, just yo much going on with holiday. I'm still trying guys!
