Well, what I thought would be an uneventful afternoon turned into a very exciting afternoon.

I got set up at about 2:30 in a spot that I know is a good travel corridor and I shot him at about 4:00.

He’s about the same size as the 8 point I killed on 28 January this year: Not big but he made my day. I had three different guys at the club call me a “lucky f****r” after the pics got sent.

As far as the shot goes I have to agree. Terrible shot placement, but it’s the fastest kill I’ve ever made. He dropped, his legs twitched for about 15 seconds and then no movement whatsoever. I glassed him and he wasn’t breathing.

I’ll go back to the same tree in the morning and see if anything else walks by. Any buck that is going to be there in the morning wasn’t anywhere near this spot this evening so I still have a chance.

After that I may move to a different spot.

    Oh yeah:

I pulled most of my cameras today. For anyone with Tactacams I would highly recommend you change the settings to photo+video. I can’t request the videos from my cams, but they are on the SD card. I got some awesome rut videos on the 2 I checked. I can’t wait to get back from ND and check my last one. It’s the one cam I got pictures of “mega.” Hope I got a somewhat decent video of him.

I gave the three does I killed at our camp a few weeks ago to other people who were there, so this is only the 7th deer that will go in our freezer.

I can fit 8 or 9 deer in the upright freezer. I still have the freezer on the fridge and the freezer in the travel trailer for “overflow”.

Of course, when I stop hunting deer I start bass fishing. It might be tough to figure out where to put fillets.

Thought I’d mention, For those talking about food sources. This buck, the doe I killed a couple weeks ago, and others were all eating locust pods.
This property has no ag fields nearby at all. It’s big woods with some fields that are just grasses, crp, etc. When the acorns are gone, they woof down these pods like twizzlers!
