So in seriousness how close a record is that thing? I mean I don't believe I've seen a bigger black in pictures, but I'm also not a bear hunter so full ignorance accepted here on my part. Like relative to deer hunting I'm assuming at minimum that is like killing a Booner?
If that bear is a legit 700lbs, that is like killing a 200" white tail. Despite seeing the scale, I have my doubts it is that big. Would love to see the body length measured as if it was standing on hind legs. A legit 700lb body weight makes it comparable to a Grizzly.
'Booner-class' for sure! Largest taken in the state was 880#, but it was from down near the coast - no hibernation and they eat all year -- coastal zone generally has the largest bears in the state. Only a few bears from the mountains taken each year over 500#, like this one. This one is probably in the top 15 for the state. The top 10 are all > 700#, but it may be the largest, on record, from western NC (mountains).
I don't think that butterball could stand on his hind legs. If I see it taped, I'll let you know. Rumor has it the guy is going to send it for taxidermy, so I'm sure, somebody will measure it.
Where's B&B when you need him?? Big Bears are measured by head size (skull), dont know how much weight plays into numbers.
It’s a measure…probably most common for record books. I’m pretty sure that hunter really wasn’t looking for a record skull though Fwiw-Historically, I don’t think NC bears have had a big of skulls as other parts of the country… Seems like PA & WI have had some big skulls. Squaring the hide another…though I think more common for brown bears, and this bear has some girth/roundness that’d help his length and ‘wing span’.
Present Jeff. Huge bear for sure. I try not to distrust a scale. It's BIG though! What ,akes me sick is hauling it around with the gutts in it. To make great eating, it's SOO, important to get them out asap. My guess, that hot_dogging it around like that is gonna make it inedible.

Whoever decided that the SD card needed that stupid read-only switch ought to be taken out behind the woodshed. Checked 3 trail cameras today that had been marinating for a month or so and not a single photo on any of them. All 3 of the SD cards in the cameras had the switch in read-only mode. I always check it to make sure that stupid thing is off, but when I checked the first camera I just assumed maybe I forgot to do it once. When I got to the second camera and found the switch on that one was also in read-only I knew something was up. I turned the switch back to normal mode, inserted the card into the camera, then removed it, and sure enough the switch was back in the read-only position. Simply inserting it into the camera was enough to turn the card off. Same story on the third camera. All three were brand new high end sandisk cards but I had never used them. Upon closer examination I figured out that apparently I got a bad batch because the switch on this set of new cards is a good 1/32" thicker than the actual card so it sticks out just enough to catch on the slot and turn itself off when you put it in. I have several of the same cards that I purchased previously and looked at them and the switch on those cards is the proper thickness. To make matters worse, unlike the old ones that have detents in both the normal and read-only position to hold the switch in place, but these new ones only have a detent for the read-only position, there isn't even the slightest tension to keep the switch from moving when it is in the normal position. I was even able to get it to move from normal mode to read-only by lightly tapping the bottom end of the cards against the table a couple times. From this point forward every SD card I own is going to be getting the crazy glue treatment.
I know what you're talking about. That happened to me a couple of times. I finally figured out that I was doing it by not being careful when I inserted the SD card. Using super glue sounds like a good idea.
They are such a pain in the butt. Cameras and cards in general. I have those new spypoint cameras. I followed the instructions and formatted just like the directions say and now it says my 32g card is full. So disappointing cause now i have to be intrusive and go back into the bedding area i put it in. Thats why i put a cell cam there cause i didnt want to have to go back in there!!! The flex model has “eaten” the sd card. So far the micro lite still works ok
