My feed corn plot is tasseling out now. Had a bunch of turkey in it the other day. Can see where deer have been in it. Blocking road well, won't block blind entrance that was due to grass growth stunting one area near blind. It is and will be a great draw once farm corn gets cut. Deer are hitting the edges of corn next to house hard.. That plot cost 9.00...not bad
Made it back up to the property this morning, I over seeded some winter rye into the plots for the second time in the last 3 weeks. The rye from a couple weeks ago is growing nicely and filling in the plots. That’s a good thing because the deer are absolutely hammering the brassica’s right now and there won’t be much left in a couple of weeks
Well the cow peas are massive despite the thick weeds and the soybeans planted with them have a bunch of pods per plant. The beef and chicken farmers have yet to plant their fields in winter grains or clover...weed fields this fall
AF. I'm kinda in the same scenario. The deer are hammering my brassica now. I may go and overseed with rye soon if a good rain event looks promising.
After the last two years of drought in Aug & Sept, and the foodplots not performing well, and getting hammered to the ground, I decided to test several different methods/mixes on different plots. Here are a couple below. I’m in SW Iowa, with generally good soil. * This year, I have not used fertilizer on anything. * Nearly all the plots had a summer mix of Green Cover’s Summer Release (Grant Woods new system) * Some spots, I chose to spray with GLY before the fall planting, others I did not spray. * After a dry July/August, I planted our initial fall plots right before 3” of rain in late August. — Brassicas planted on Aug 3. Greens and mixes on 8/13. Then got 3” of rain. * over-Sowed WR yesterday, and it is raining all day today (1” so far) Brassicas on left. Sprayed before planting. No fertilizer DbleTree mix of Greens on right w/o spraying — overgrown with foxtails, but still some Austrian peas, clover, buckwheat, etc coming up Middle: Green Cover Fall release with spray Left: Nothing—left the Summer Release stand for screening Right: Green Cover Fall Release without spray Spray and drill GC Fall Release And our burr oaks dropping acorns in the timber. :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Both of my big plots look pretty dismal for 2-3 weeks after seeding. Some good rains too. Very little growth. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
It's amazing how hard the deer hit that weed bean plot. They are in there every night buck and doe now. A few raccoon to ,thinking going after the soybean pods. The cow peas are getting stripped of all leaves. They found my compost squash that grew into the plot. At least one is gone. Biggest butternut I've ever seen. Today I had some brush / limb cutting to do that the last 2,weeks of rain kept me from doing. I cleaned up and opened up 2 stand areas. One giving me two shots to the squash and to the loaded chestnut 25 yards away. Then cut a shrub to get a gun opening to the other plot. I also pulled the nails from old goat roofing sheet,measured and hubby cut it . I then took it to the chicken coop blind and dropped it in for a perfect fit flooring. I will put down a vapour barrier and install indoor out door carpet between hunts this weekend. I have really done well getting many open ended projects finished this year. Good part of this, I've used up a lot of things I gathered and saved for projects. This freeing up different storage space.
Ape trees in the tree food plot. The chestnuts are loaded to...late hard frost got the persimmon blossoms though.
Wow how to tell I had a rough night two for two on wrong thread posts...lol fingers apparently not hitting pad hard enough as well I suppose apes would like those APPLE trees...hahaha
No I do not drink. I also did not get my new reading glass ware prescription filled either..lol The rough night was whole body cramping. If you've never experienced it....count yourself BLESSED I have always been a night thrasher, every time I moved a cramp occurred. Not much sleeping took place.
I drink electrolytes and take magnesium. Oh and I actually do drink, maybe 2 vodka and sugar free redbull or Zevia coke a month.
I finally asked the son to trailer his zero turn over. OK I prefer the JD. I mowed for 5 hrs got all the Lots mowed down. I have to spray and get the rye down. Problem is breezy and my body, seriously I can barely walk and my hands are shot. Clumping grass I feel like I sat on a....Hhhmmm... rock sorter for 5hrs
I keep thinking that one Sunday night, I’ll be able to post about the success of my land projects I wanted to do this year. Instead, on Friday nights, I’m thinking about how much other stuff I have to get done and won’t get the time to work on food plots and clearing brush. Labor Day weekend, I swear on my living mothers dead dog’s grave, I’m working on hunting stuff ALL WEEKEND and no one, I repeat, no one, is going to try to sway my determination or it’s limb loppers to the toe for them!
Kinda concerned about my brassica plots. They came up very nice with a few light rains but not much moisture Don deeper. Really no rain in the 7 day forecast and some 90* Temps coming. Pumpkins are doing Purdy good despite how dry it is. Measured a sunflower plant a bit ago. 176" tall
Every single time I mention spraying the wind picks up! Was going to tonight just before dark but taters needed harvesting and ended up doing that until well after dark. Got a nice bucket full of reds hubby was happy. I have the sprayer filled with water and ready to go in Gator with big jugs of glysophate and sticker. I will get up and be out the door as day light starts. That and dusk are my best chances to do the plot around garden and fruit trees and bushes. Lane ways I don't worry about drift as much mainly mature maple and dying ash. Rains are due in 3 days
