I’m just chomping at the bit to get out. Our hunt opens this Saturday.
I was just wondering who else is getting out elk hunting?

I can't wait! I have not missed a year archery elk hunting since 1991, and am still like a kid before x-mas when it arrives every year.
It opens 8/30, but I won't go out until after Labor Day. Have a family trip planned over Labor Day weekend.
Just a weekend warrior again this year. Makes it quite a bit tougher when I can't spend at least a week at one time out trying.

Not sure, but I’ll let you know.
Missing this year. Got some bad advice on the Colorado draw, didn’t get a tag the first go around.
Could have bought a leftover, but had already made other plans.

I’m so sorry you guys. I have elk hunted since 1978. I’m like a kid at Christmas every year.

My primary bow is all dialed in. Fixed broad heads, bare shaft, and fletched field points all hitting together at 20 yards. I sighted it in out to 70 yards last weekend.
Last night I touched up broadhead blades, put them on arrows, and put the arrows in my bow quiver.
Will check tune and sight in backup bow this weekend. Going camping this weekend to elk hunting area, so will get in some scouting too. Last year I found a new wallow, want to see what it looks like this year. It is in very heavy timber, I think it would be something they'd visit during mid-day. If it is being used again this year, I plan to limb out a tree for my climber.

I struck out on the draw, so no elk for me this year. I know I could do OTC, but with the gas prices I can't stomach the cost right now.

Yes sir! Headed to Montana mid September! I try and go every 3 years. I’d love to go every year but don’t think that would go over to well with my wife! Went to Colorado in 2016 with a rifle and swore I’d never do that again. While it was kind of fun I’d much rather be chasing bugles during the rut. So I went again in 2019 with a bow and had an amazing time. Called my way into a herd bull and his harem of 7 cows. Unfortunately just a touch out of range and I got busted trying to draw back. But a really neat experience.

Going with a buddy who’s never been before and I think we have a good plan to locate some elk.

What units are you looking at? We hunted 416 and 452 last year.

Some of the best advice we got was from a biologist...get an MVUM for your area ( can find them on avenza) find a gated road and use it for access...we found a couple got in a mile or two, then jumped off...as the blowdown was worse in some areas of MT than CO...

My brother and I are headed to Montana in two weeks! (Just now realizing how much stuff I have to do first).

I am super excited because this is one of the few years we are headed back to a spot we have been before! Last year we were in this same place for rifle season and went 2/5 and saw a ton of elk and lots of good bulls for a general unit! I also just got an Ollin Adapter for Digiscoping and super excited to try out a magnetic Phone Adapter.
