I haven't really used trail cameras that much in my hunting life. I just started using them here and there a few years ago. I'm about to buy a couple of cellular trail cameras and I'm looking hard at the Tactacam Reveal lineup. I'm torn between the Tactacam Reveal X Gen 2.0 and the Reveal XB. From what I can find, the two main differences are (1) the Gen 2.0 is a 16 MP camera whereas the XB is a 24 MP camera and (2) the Gen 2.0 has an IR flash while the XB is "black-out" or "no-glow". I think the XB also has a GPS function so that the camera can be located. In your opinion is the "no-glow" feature an advantage or a disadvantage? It should make the camera harder for others to spot and not spook the deer at all with any flash, but from what I read it decreases the flash range.
80-100 ft is good flash range, most no glows should reach that far .. I'll only get the no glow from here on out, harder for thieves to see when dark out ... I also place mine about 12 ft up, using one long climbing stick to get it up there and angle it down/cable it in and hide it with plastic ornamental leaves from Hobby Lobby .. .... mine are not "cell", but those Browning take great pic's .... check out Trailcampro.com for reviews ...
I will 2nd "Trailcampro". LC please walk your areas where you plan to use cell cams, see what kind of cell coverage u have, like u I am out in sticks, no cell signal. Deer get used to low glow of IR flash, coyotes didnt.
I think the two I’m looking at have a 96’ flash range for the IR and an 80’ range for the no-glow. I think I’ll go with the no-glow.
The two cell cams I’m going to buy will only be used here at my place. I have a decent AT&T signal where I hunt here.
The image quality isn’t really an issue because the pictures are sent as thumbnails to your phone and they ARE NOT 16/24mp. The quality would show when the camera/SD card was pulled. If you plan on getting just 1 or 2 Id probably get the XB as it has just a few more features. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They were running a deal on 2 of either of those mentioned. Both are good cameras. My 2 cents is any no glow or IR camera doesn't do well on a field edge trying to reach that 80' flash range. They illuminate much better if put in a location with a backdrop...trees, bushes, etc. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
That’s good to know. These will be used in the woods. The only place I hunt field edges is in Kentucky and I don’t really need cameras there.
With these two you can look at the thumbnails and if you want a high resolution pic you can have the camera upload it to the app. There is an additional fee for this. It’s $5.00 for 50 HD pics or videos.

They’re still that price. I’m going to go with two XBs though, and they don’t have any bundles for those. They do have bundles for the X Gen 2.0 though which is why I was thinking about getting those. Pretty sure I’m also going to get two solar panel kits to go along with them.
Yes, the solar panels are a game changer! Make sure to charge your solar panel with a 110 cord prior to using. Also speaking from experience, make sure you plug the camera into the correct port when you leave it out. Whoops Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
Yeah, I've read all of the instructions already just to make sure none of them would be a problem. I like the idea of the solar panel being it's own battery pack instead of charging the camera batteries. It'll be like having two sets of batteries working. If the solar panel battery pack ever runs out of power, the camera batteries will start draining and I'll be able to see that on the app. I can just go down, grab the solar panels, charge them and put them back up.
I appreciate the input guys. I placed my order for two Reveal XB cameras, two solar panel bundles and two SD cards. I probably paid two prices for the SD cards ordering them from Tactacam, but considering gas prices I probably saved money since I'm a half hour from town.
As an FYI - I've had my Reveals out of a month and a half and all of them are still at 100% battery. Batteries are $$$ but they do have very good battery life.
What's the delivery setup? Timely or 12/24? I've found each camera is differnt it seems on battery life. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
I've got them set to send as it takes the picture. I used 1 set of batteries in each last year from May - December and they were still around 50%.
I was just looking at the specs on the Reveal X. They are also supposed to be able to send you an HD image when you request one. If you’re interested in that sort of thing.
I actually just used it last week for the first time. Now I just need to remember I have 49 more HD photos to request.
Any way you can post a pic of a thumbnail and an HD pic so I can see what they’ll look like without having to wait until my cameras are out? Edit - I just saw that you posted a pic from the camera in the LFTS thread.
