Dang you eat a lot for dinner LC! Just joking, nice fish. I like bass for eating too, also northern, panfish, walleye and catfish.
We barely put a dent in it last night. Left-over fillets are wonderful right out of the fridge, so I just cooked them all up last night.
I’ve been to NYC a few times. The times I was there the ship I was on pulled in for “Fleet Week”. Every time I was there what I experienced was the stereotypical New York: Huge crowds, horrendous traffic and rude people. Not everyone was rude, of course, but there were a lot of them. I went out one night with a group of Navy Chiefs. There were about 10 of us walking in our Summer White uniforms (to a bar, of course) when a small group of young teenagers rode by us on bicycles. The oldest one stopped, looked back at us and yelled “Baby Killers!” All we could do is look at each other for a second and burst out laughing. We couldn’t help wondering what kind of upbringing that kid must have had. It’s good to hear it’s not always like that.
Pretty fish Oldcarp. Musky are exciting fish to catch. WE have a good smallie, musky river five miles from the farm. Lots of canoe trips with fishing on it when the kids were teenagers. Couple times kids had bass on and big musky would come from nowhere and hit it at the canoe. Kids still talk about that. Destroyed two canoes over the years on that rocky river, been thinking about getting another one to take grandkids. Muskys have it made in Wis. 40 inches to be legal. I caught a 43 incher and was looking forward to eating it. Worse tasting fish ever, would never keep another one.
Forty inch is the rule here also. We only catch them ever so often. I went on little hike today to a place they call the Grotto.
I’ve spent the past six days building a deck in front of our house. This one has been a nightmare. I knew it would be because of the steep, rocky, boulder infested terrain here. I’m almost finished but it’s raining today so I get a break. They say you should put a band-aid on where you’re hurting. Today I feel like I need one of these:
Well folks...life has been too busy to do a ton of work I wanted to get done (no bobcat work day shoving a few edges of plots bigger) but this past Saturday we did get out to the property and did a lot of overdue items. Planted buckwheat in my two main plots for summer growth to combat weeds and set up a good standing crop to overseed into for fall plots. Cut probably 30 trees or so down in areas of plots that they simply were maturing beyond what we wanted now and needed the canopy removed...also cleared and widened a plot/trail connecting the two plots that the blind overlooks - providing a longer sight picture for approaching deer to not pop out on us at 25 yards too quick to be ready with a bow and now if holding a boomstick we have a two hundred yard shot up into the plot we couldn't see well into. Lime got put down too before lightly discing the buckwheat in. Man it was nice to breathe some fresh air and just zone out for a day working the habitat....
A few of the joists ended up on boulders so I had to break out my big demolition hammer I call “the beast”.
That is my wife’s new car. She needed something that could get her in and out on the forest roads where she hikes. I’m still in my grey F-150.
Thanks Ty. I need to modify the second and third steps in the 3rd pic. I had intended to put a hand rail on the right side, but it needs to be on the left and those steps won’t work. Not only that but they don’t look right now that they’re finished. I am going to extend re-do the second step and extend it left. I’ll shorten the left side of the third step up by 3”. That will give us two steps with 10” of tread on the left so both sides are functional. I have no idea what I was thinking there.
“So let it be written, so let it be done.” It bugged me enough that I popped up a canopy and got it done in the rain.
LC, that is freaking cool! I absolutely love that deck. The contour edge is a great accent. You are quite the craftsman and fisherman!
