If you have chest high fern I'm betting your soil is pretty acidic...if no test at least give a hand full a could sniff. If it smells acidic you'll need a bunch of lime TILLED in.. remember for the types of seeds your looking to plant do not till deep. All that will do is pull up even more unwanted weed seeds. Hope your spraying all the buck thorn stumpage. . Buckwheat,and radish are great nutrient scavengers as a mix in. Also great soil listeners that do not encourage weed growth.

I took a damage walk today. Lots of branches, leaves ripped off trees Lots of water on ground. Though FINALLY I'm seeing the clover I frost seeded. I am also going to leave all the rye intact. It makes good bugging and hiding for young pults.
So while out there didn't I walk right into the two buck from yesterday 20 yrds when we saw each other and I froze. They bound off and stopped not in a hurry to leave. A.J. never saw,them, he was behind me digging out a ground squirrel. Excuse the rough hand I work with them daily I hate nails they collect dirt. That said, is this concidering a big print?
I went to my land today and sprayed a bunch of thistle’s in the clover plots. Hundreds of the damn things… the good thing is the clover is doing well so far and the stuff that I frost seeded is also coming in nicely. Will need to get back up there soon to spray for grasses before it gets to tall.
Got 10 more trees added into the ground. Apples, pear, chestnut, and a few more persimmon. Land got disked and corn is in. Still need to get in the plot beans and clover. Next week maybe. Just aren't enough hours in the day. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
Looking good. I'm on hold yet another spring. Tractor brakes are shot apparently and it needs a greasing. . Not to mention the rain has everything mucky. Winds have stopped any spray downs as well Got to love ma nature and.....hubby...lol The year I say I'm not doing plots and don't buy seed...all equipement will be in top shape, there will be little winds and the sun will shine all but one day a week...LOL I did get one area behind the garden sprayed down. And around the fruit trees in lower plot. These I can till if need be. I finally found where I put my rape seed and the cow peas I bought this late winter. I have the soybeans and sorghum from last year . I know sorghum holds over well and the ssoybeans were so cheap I decided I could do a hold over experiment with them. They are the only seed I haven't done this test with. I've been very successful with most hold over seeds. This spring I found a small mixed seed plot bag I made three years ago. It had clover and brassicas ,grains in it. I tossed it out in my frost seeded plots. Dang if it isn't growing.
I’ve been busy helping a couple of friends the last few weekends. Helped put in 4 acres of beans on 2 separate properties last weekend. Got all of my cameras out and started a new mineral site on Sunday. Not much moving yet from the cell cameras. That should change once the crops come up. Are those fiddle head fern? My 3 clumps I planted 4 years ago have grown to 12 clumps...eventually before I'm 70 I should have enough to pic one of my all time m e spring treat.. I'm literally a month behind. I finally got down to mow where I plan on doing a kill down and plant corn it's been in a hay mix the last few years. The last time I planted corn zero seed came up. Ticked me right off. I have 2 bags of Scranton spread after I do the kill do w n spray and then disk in the corn. This will be feed corn that normally sprouts well. Though we have a bad bird,squirrel, raccoon problem the seed boring worms are worse. The hay mix had lots of clover and the thatch and mowed chopped grasses should feed the corn. I have 2-4she to spray once the corn comes up. I'm planting a mid summer soybean and cow peas in the next two weeks. Mid summer will see rape seed and fall a grain and clover planting. Good for you getting things done.
They did appear to be fiddle head (at least they looked like it 2 weeks ago). Almost all are out of that stage now.
Finally got back up to my land and sprayed the clover plots for grasses and other weeds. Looks pretty good right now.
My buddy and I put in 6.5 acres or so of soybeans. Fenced it all off last weekend. Not fun lol. Going to put in some big and beasty and some sorghum. Should be a fun late season! Mainly doing it for my kids to hunt over! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A big tell for fiddle heads are the stems are U shaped. Other ferns have this a little . Fiddle head or ostrich fern it's very pronounced.
As I Said way behind and sinking I fear. The fall in the garden the other day seriously messed me up. The winds are as well. ,though today I said blank it and sprayed anyways. I had to use the 4 gallon back pack and walk the plot. 3 tanks later the front hay plot is sprayed down and the fence line along the neighbours. My leg gave out about noon. I also got some more garden work done this morning tilling and rock raking. The white,red clover, I tried out last year came in great with the winter rye. I'm letting most all rye go to seed so the clover will as well. I'll get some pics of the clover tomorrow.
