It's time to put in for preference points for non residents or apply for a tag in Iowa. Good luck to everyone trying to draw a tag.
I cashed my points in during the 2019 season and then missed the application in 2020 because I'm dumb. So I just picked up my second point. Going to be a few years before I get back to Iowa, so I may do Kansas or Missouri in the meantime. It sucks having to wait so long, but it's totally worth it.
$60.50 plus an application fee to buy a preference point? I get it is Iowa, but that is pricey for a preference point. I can and having been buying preference points in Wyoming for elk and antelope for roughly the same price.
Does anyone know how many preference points are needed to be guaranteed a tag in zone 5? I have 4 points, but don't want to commit to a lease unless I'm going to be guaranteed a tag.
They post the draw results on their website every year. https://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/Hunting/nrd_draw.pdf
I'll be putting in for my 3rd pt soon...hopefully in the next couple years I can spend some time in Iowa in a camp full of killers.
If/when you need pointers let me know! I live and hunt in zone 5 and always happy to help a fella out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I appreciate it Dan! I’m sure I’ll have a bunch of questions between now an when I finally draw. Went ahead and bought my son a point as well. He’s 12 so I’m sure he’ll be 16-17 when we draw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think about that a lot. I think for my first Iowa experience regardless of the outcome it will be well worth the price of admission. I have 2 cell cameras out there now.. I just hope I draw at this point haha.
Just put in for my Iowa tag this morning. I have 4 points and will be trying to hunt zone five. Put in as a group with my other too hunting buddies also with 4 points. Fingers crossed!!
