My son in law and grandson and myself went for a little ride yesterday afternoon up towards where we elk hunt. We only got about halfway before the snow stoped us. We did see four elk. I’m thinking in a couple weeks we can get to the top.
There were spots of bare ground. The drifts were still 2 to 3 foot deep. We have more snow than we’ve had the last couple years. We are still so far behind with our water most of the ground just soaked up the moisture. It is beautiful up there.
My grandson invited me on field trip with his class. We went to Nine Mile canyon and looked at the petroglyphs.
Very cool pictures Oldcarp! Nothing like that in my area. Spring finally arrived, 80's this week, bugs and ticks showed up too.
We are in the Spring mode here. One day your highs can be in the upper 50s and the next day it could be in the upper 70s.
I was invited to go to Philadelphia by a firm that manages some of my assets and I do some other business with. I have never been out East and took full advantage. My wife went along and we toured a lot of the sites in Philly and then took a train for one long day to NY City. I also got to play a round of golf at Atlantic City Country Club thanks to a generous member. Al Capone was a member there back in the day. It is one of the oldest clubs in the US and the course where the term "birdie" was coined. We ate some amazing food and drank some great beers and now I am on a diet. lol. It was a great trip, but always good to get back home.
I was born in upstate NY and have been living here all my life. I’ve yet to go to NYC. Looks like you had a great time Fletch.
My wife has been trying to get me to go to NYC for over 20 years. She bought Amtrak tickets while we were in Philly and just told me on Thursday that we were going to NYC on Friday. lol. Leaving on the 6am train and not returning until the 11:30pm train. I was not happy about it. I was WRONG. The city was nothing like I had imagined. There were not huge crowds of people and the ones we spoke to were very friendly. I'm sure it makes a huge difference since lots of folks are still working from home due to Covid. If you ever wanted to go see the city, I think now must be the time. I very much enjoyed it. I even got to go find my Grandfather's name on the wall at Ellis Island. He came over from Copenhagen, Denmark when he was 4 years old. Touching his name on the wall actually made me tear up. No idea why, but it was emotional to know that I was standing where he had first landed on our soil. I will never forget it. I was only about 7 years old when he passed, but I do remember that he was the one that took me fishing for the very first time. I might even be talked into a return visit some day. I might have to go back for another Heady Topper at Fraunces Tavern that was established in 1762 and is the oldest tavern in NYC.
Great story Fletch. If I go I want to take in a Mets game. My wife has been to the city numerous times. That was one of my reasons for not wanting to go was the thought of being around all the people. Hell I don’t even like going to the grocery store. Couple of my buddies drink that Heady Topper that’s an acquired taste I believe. I would be interested in trying the different restaurants.
My wife loves the beach. I was born and bread in the mountains with a little desert. She went to Hawaii last year and is wanting me to go with her next year. I am not a beach person. I think the ocean is cool and majestic. But to sit on a beach it’s not my thing. Next year is our 40th anniversary. If I want to see my 41st anniversary I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to go and make the best of it
Fletch glad you had a great time in NYC. Going by train sounds like it would make it easier and less stress than driving. Never knew Ellis Island kept track of the immigrants. I'll ask my siblings if any ever checked up on it about our grandparents.
We travel to Hawaii every other year I’d like to attempt axis deer hunting while there…the nonresident permit fee is not that bad & since you’re in the islands anyways…why not From what I see on television it’s very difficult to bow hunt them as there are so many deer present Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Spending the week vacationing at the Outer Banks and looked up out the window of our house and this guy was bedded down. Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
That is cool. This morning I was going through the Canyon going to my sons house and came across a couple elk coming down to water. I had a Semi about a hundred yards behind me or I would have stopped to see if I could have got a picture.
Went to one of my local fishing holes yesterday. Last night’s dinner was swimming around yesterday morning.
